Hello Len - > My list is hardly a list at all! I share an interest in WHEELERS (with my > Cuz Angela). My brickwall concerns Thomas WHEELER b.1775 in Deddington son of > Thomas & Anne. > > "Young" Thomas married Ann and they had their first child Martha in 1797 in > Deddington and their second child Elizabeth in 1800, also in Deddington. The > family appears in Swerford with the baptism of William in 1810 and then Thomas > in 1815. > > It seems unlikely that they remained in Deddington with no further children > before moving to Swerford and starting again in 1810. So where were they? Well, this seemed like just the sort of request for which the OFHS Oxfordshire baptism index is being compiled - I'm coordinating volunteers' efforts for the project. Details of searches are under Search Services at www.ofhs.org.uk . So I had a look. Indeed in Deddington baptisms there are: 1797 WHEELER Martha d Thomas & Ann 1800 WHEELER Elizabeth d Thomas & Ann But then I think you may need to reconsider your notes. Swerford baptisms for offspring of Thomas & Ann are: 1803 WHEELER Maria d Thomas & Ann 1805 WHEELER Anne d Thomas & Anne which all runs fine. You referred to William 1810 & Thomas 1815. They are offspring of a *William* & Anne. Hope that doesn't cause too much havoc with your tree! Swerford is on CD CN-01 from OFHS if you want to browse it. > Who was Ann, wife of "Young" Thomas? They do not appear to have married in > Deddington (or Swerford) and the only 'possible' marriage in IGI seems to be > Thomas WHEELER to Ann ALLIBONE 14 March 1797 in Pillerton Hersey (Warwicks). > However the Pillerton PRs say that Thomas came from Combroke. Could he have > moved from Deddington to Combroke, married Ann at Pillerton Hersey, gone back to > Deddington then somewhere else before settling in Swerford where he was with > his son William in 1851? Yes, I see Thomas with William in 1851, Ann having been buried in 1848 age 75. The marriage is not on the Oxfordshire OFHS marriage index. Had you looked at the 1841? There's a helpful piece of information there - that, as you suspected, Ann was born out-of-county. 1841 census - All present county Search made on 11 January 2005 from Index dated 06/09/2002 A project funded by the Oxfordshire Family History Society www.ofhs.org.uk HO 107/879/18 Chadlington Hundred Swerford Folio, Place, H, Surname, Forename, Age, Occpn, Born in county? 5, Swerford , 1, WHEELER , Thomas , 67 , Ag Lab , y 5, Swerford , , WHEELER , Ann , 68 , - , n Have you investigated whether there's another Thomas & Ann begetting children in possible WAR parishes for the WHEELER/ALLIBONE marriage? -- Wendy OFHS baptism index coordinator
As others, I am a lurker. I am interested in the names GAMMAGE, Thomas (GAMAGE, GAMIDGE or derivations) born approximately 1842 ( unconfirmed) who I believe married Mary ROB(B)INS. The marriage occurred in Woodstock, Oxfordshire. Daughter Susan GAMMAGE (marriage record shows birth place as Banbury) came to Canada in early 1900's and married Henry James COLLINS in Victoria, British Columbia. Oxon, Clifton near Deddington is another place which appears in some of research on Gammage. Dennis Edmonton, Alberta, Canada >
