    1. [BAN] The Bortons (Bourtons) of Cropredy & Great Bourton
    2. Tony Borton
    3. Hi Fellow Members, My name is Tony Borton and I have been working on my family tree for a couple of years now. Living in Tasmania means that all of my information has been obtained via the web, from some extremely helpful genealogy devotees who have access to historical information. I have managed trace my Borton (sometimes shown as Bourton) ancestry back from the present day to around 1679, which is where I am at this point. My last known ancestor was a William Borton who was born/baptised on 26th Jan 1679/80 listed as the first child of William and Sarah of Great Bourton. I have names and dates of other siblings as well as all the subsequent generations from that point, which I can provide if any person in the group requires them. Other surnames that are connected by marriage include Osborne, Kimbel, Paine, Fox and Lovett. I would love to get more information on William and Sarah, such as a wedding date (probably around 1678) what Sarah's maiden name was and any details of their parentage so that I can continue to follow my line. Any information or advise would be gratefully received. Regards, Tony Borton (Launceston, Tasmania)

    3. Hi Tony, The OFHS Oxfordshire Marriage Index 1538 - 1837 doesn't list a marriage for William BORTON/variants & Sarah ? about 1678. This index is supposed to be amde from all surviving marriage records for OXF. They were probably married in NTH or WAR as Gt. Bourton is very close to these boarders. I don't have access to these PR's to check further. There are BORTON baptisms in Cropredy (Gt. Bourton was in Cropredy Parish at this time period) prior to 1678. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. 3. Tony, This is a bit early for your William's marriage but could be an earlier ancestor of yours: 31 July 1743 at Drayton, Oxon William BORTON of Gt Boughton married Elizabeth CHERRY by licence Good luck with the rest of your research.
