    3. Hi Jon and anyone with farming ancestors, from the Ag Lab upwards :-) Having plenty of farming ancestors I have always been interested in their lives, duties and day to day activities One book I found of interest was by Henry STEPHENS , called The Book of the Farm (I should say series of books as its in three volumes) It was used on the series "The Victorian Farm" All three volumes can be downloaded for free from www.archive.org (a search for Henry Stephens Farm will find them) There is also one on farm buildings and their construction which goes into all sorts of detail including how to put up a wire fence etc There are sections on just about everything to do with the farm and running of it including how they were paid and goes into great detail as to the costs of various produce, even how to slaughter a sheep should you want to know ! Full of useful information such as how to plough, cleaving down your gore furrows <g> Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Anyone any idea how I can guess the price of farm live and dead stock in > the 1860's ?
