Hello everyone The Deddington Parish Register for Oct 11 1787 has a marriage between John Robinson and Martha Maycock. One of the witnesses is Robert Malings. There are two candidates for Robert. One is aged 17 and the other 75. Does anyone know if there was a lower age limit for witnesses (like 21?) at this time or could anyone be one ? thanks Jon Malings County Wexford, Ireland _________________________________________________________________ Do you have a story that started on Hotmail? Hi Jon There is and hasn't been a minimum age to act as a witness All that was required was that the person be able to understand what they were being asked to do I have come across some as young as thirteen Generally I have found witnesses are nearer the age of the bride and groom rather than very much older but there is no set rule Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hello everyone > The Deddington Parish Register for Oct 11 1787 has a marriage between John > Robinson and Martha Maycock. > One of the witnesses is Robert Malings.
