I read Pollyp's email 5th January with interest. I also have a bit of a mystery connecting Coventry to Claydon. At the outbreak of WW1 14 August 1914 my grandfather Frederick Taylor was living in Field Row in Coventry. I have a document showing that he needed to show the authorities that he was a single parent with a young son, my father. This was presumably because he was an old soldier & wanted to avoid call up. However he was called up & my father & his sister lived with their 'grandmother' in Claydon. The mystery is, that as far as I have been able to discover, they did not have a grandmother living in Claydon. My grand father seems to have served overseas during the war; I am not sure where this was but I suspect he was in India. So who was 'grandmother"? Vic Taylor Uk
