Francis, Sorry for the delay in replying but I have been away for a few days. Thank you for contribution to my problem but I don't think it is my William. I believe my William's father was James and William had only one brother also called James, who was brought up in Preston Capes in Northamptonshire. Back to the drawing board!! WOW! I just came on to ask the question, and you have answered it! Herbert Luttley Howse was my great grandfather, and I have a photo of him! So Jane would have been my great-great-great Aunt. Edith would have been my Grandad's cousin. Mystery solved! Thank you one and all. That is one of the quickest answers I have ever had - from anywhere! Ian Hi Ian, Not sure if you want to try working on something else... Jane Howse married Henry Morris Dec Q 1886 Vol 6D in Warwickshire, Warwick District In 1881 Jane Howse b abt 1860 b Spelsbury, was working as a Domestic Servant in Leamington ,Wark In 1871 she was at home with parents John Howse and wife Hannah, along with sisters Marion 21, Harriet 13 and a Herbert L Howse 1 year, listed as grandson If you need this further back, let me know. Denise
Hi Christine, and all my other responders. Thank you. The Spelsbury connection is the most likely, as that is where my grandfather was from. Two sisters fits in with what I know as well. So, she may be related to grandad rather than gran. This is the Howse line, from Spelsbury/Taston. Very interesting indeed. That gives me something to work on in the coming months. Wilfrid Robertson is a long shot, but the spelling is correct, as opposed to the more?usual Wilfred. He was born in 1890's, but do I have an exact d.o.b. at home, so I will look it out. Once again there are lots of Wilfrid Robertson from all over the UK and all ages from 1 year olds to adults. Sorry, but I have a subscription to Ancestry UK so can do look-ups easily if you can come up with more info. Barbara. Tracing Your Roots - Episode 2 - Today, 16:30 on BBC Radio 4 http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00mg2v2 Sally Magnusson presents the series exploring the practice of researching family history, with the help of resident genealogist Nick Barratt. Lucille White has been trying to get to the bottom of a family that her great, great-grandmother may have been the illegitimate daughter of Louis XVI, but stories handed down from one generation to the next are often history as the teller would like it to have been, not as it really was. Birth, marriage and death certificates may not tell the whole story, so Sally and Nick investigate how to widen the search in order to disentangle myth from truth. Rgds. Denise Howes
