Even though it says that Thomas Bevington was of the parish, it doesn't mean he was born there. Since there were no births, or burials for any other Bevingtons and no children born in Banbury after 1820 when they married...the Thomas and Jane in Warks were probably the same ones...Maybe he was working in Banbury for a while...or maybe someone just made a mistake when they transcribed the parish records.... 3. Thank you. To add to that comprehensive entry which includes Churchill's funeral, I like the story that Sir Winston's funeral had been meticulously planned by Sir Winston himself. He was certain that De Gaulle, as French Head of State, would be attending. The funeral cortege left London by rail embarking at Waterloo - not the obvious choice of station but the one that would irritate De Gaulle the most Michael Allbrook -----Original Message----- From: eng-banbury-area-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-banbury-area-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Colin Cohen Sent: 02 February 2010 13:45 To: ENG-BANBURY-AREA@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BAN] Wickson WW2 in Upper Heyford (michael) I can't help with the memorial, but in case other readers should be confused by the reference to QOOH see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen's_Own_Oxfordshire_Hussars for its history. 3. Hi Jon There is and hasn't been a minimum age to act as a witness All that was required was that the person be able to understand what they were being asked to do I have come across some as young as thirteen Generally I have found witnesses are nearer the age of the bride and groom rather than very much older but there is no set rule Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hello everyone > The Deddington Parish Register for Oct 11 1787 has a marriage between John > Robinson and Martha Maycock. > One of the witnesses is Robert Malings. 3. Hello everyone The Deddington Parish Register for Oct 11 1787 has a marriage between John Robinson and Martha Maycock. One of the witnesses is Robert Malings. There are two candidates for Robert. One is aged 17 and the other 75. Does anyone know if there was a lower age limit for witnesses (like 21?) at this time or could anyone be one ? thanks Jon Malings County Wexford, Ireland _________________________________________________________________ Do you have a story that started on Hotmail? 3. Hi I found "Following the drum: The lives of army wives and daughters past and present" by Annabel Venning. (published by Headline in 2005) helpful when researching life for a Grenadier Guard and his family in the mid nineteenth century. I don't know whether they accompanied him to the Crimea, but they were certainly in Canada with him during his 2 year service there. It may not answer your specific problems but it gives a fascinating insight. Best wishes Jill
