Just to let you know that the weather in Banbury has become cold and very wet. Just in time for Banbury Fair. Banbury's is not what is called a Mop Fair. Don't know why, but that is the case. I call it a Tent Fair. 'Coz, tent fair what they charge for the rides! Ian
Peter, It should be alright now. But . . . . Hi One and All, The Banburyshire website is beginning to stagger forward again. I've done nothing with it over the past couple of months for personal reasons, which means that I still have quite a lot of material to sort out and upload. So I've started with the easiest page - the Surnames List - and I think I have added all the names I've been sent. If yours aren't there, either because I've missed them, or you haven't sent them, let me know. There's no formal protocol, just send me an email with the following details: *SURNAME *A date or dates, century, before, after, about . . . *Village/s and/or Parish/es and County [Please use these abbreviations for the counties: Northamptonshire=NTH; Oxfordshire=OXF; Warwickshire=WAR] *Your contact name - a name you like to be known by, full name or just a first name will do *Your email address - a general locality would also be appreciated, e.g. West Jordan, Utah (Hi Bill!) If you have a website that includes genealogical, historical or other information about Banburyshire, add your personal webpage URL. If you have further information about your family or an individual that doesn't fit in the Surnames List, you can expand the details and add the information to the 'Notes & Queries' section. Hope to hear from you, Rosemary, Northumberland UK ............................................................ Hi Rosemary, Welcome back- we have missed you & have been very concerned about you. Hope all is better Dawn
Hi List - I am new to this Banbury list; looking for any contacts/assistance with the Family name HONE associated with both the Warwickshire and Oxfordshire Counties. Place towns that are common are such as: Epwell, Swalcliffe, Sibford Gower, Banbury, Ratley and many others. Would like to compare and swap notes with other HONE RESEARCHERS re the family and associated families. Thanks List any assistance/suggestions appreciated Mark Grady (Australia)
My Gaskin/Gaskins/Gascoyne ancestors lived in Mixbury and Juniper Hill, near Brackley. My brick wall is William Gascoyne, who was baptised at Mixbury in October 1780 as the son of Elizabeth Gascoyne. There are no earlier entries for the surname or its variations. I've visited the Oxfordshire RO and the vestry documents for Mixbury have been lost. An alternative source might be the appropriate Quarter Sessions rolls in case they list details of a maintenance order against the putative father. With Mixbury being right on the Northants border, I'm not sure where the appropriate QS records might be held. Does anyone have any idea about jurisdictions of these courts at the time? G'day IAN **Bit Late - surprising what one finds in "Drafts" Cake Yeast.. known as Wet Yeast.. 0.6 oz = ¼ oz pkt dry.. Active Dry Yeast. usually in 1/4 oz pkt. which i s 2 ½ teasp... Are you making a "Dough Cake". ???? BTW . Bread machine yeast - (a quick riser) not the best for hand made breads... So I'm told... betty... - Original Message ----- From: <IRHUCKIN@aol.com> To: <ENG-BANBURY-AREA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 13, 2004 6:26 PM Subject: Re: [BAN] Anybody home? > Anyone know how much fresh yeast to use where a recipe only gives dried? > Bill, Betty, Polly anyone? > Thanks. > > Ian > > > ============================== > Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration > Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial. Hi Keith, I'm also researching in this area. Quarter Sessions for Mixbury would be in Oxfordshire, but because the parish borders both Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire, one really must check records for all three counties, because people often bounced back and forth across the borders. ----- Original Message ----- From: Keith Jackson [mailto:Keith.Jackson@nottingham.ac.uk] Sent: 10/14/2004 6:05:56 AM To: ENG-BANBURY-AREA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BAN] Quarter Sessions > My Gaskin/Gaskins/Gascoyne ancestors lived in Mixbury and Juniper Hill, near Brackley. Thanks Betty. That is about what I want. I plan to make some today, but going to try dried first. TTFN, Ian
Hi Ian, My copy of "The Dairy Book of Home Cookery" quotes the following. Dried Yeast This can be used instead of fresh. Allow 2 level teaspoons dried yeast for every ½ oz. fresh yeast recommended in a recipe. To reconstitute, dissolve a teaspoon of sugar in a little of the measured liquid---which should be warm. Hope this helps. Regards, Polly.

It was on her website www.janetleigh.slash, slash, slash, back slash, back slash, slash, slash. Well you get the idea!! What are you doing Norman? hehehehe Ian

In bread making (you don't say) 1 ounce fresh yeast (25g) OR 1/2 ounce (12.5g) dried yeast is used for 3-4lbs of bread flour. Guess it would be the same for other recipes. Presume this is for some kind of Banbury cake? Dear Diane. Cheque arrived today. The books will be on their way to you tomorrow. Thank you, Ian
Anyone know how much fresh yeast to use where a recipe only gives dried? Bill, Betty, Polly anyone? Thanks. Ian
Sorry Ian, I've never used fresh yeast. Except in sourdough. But I use dry yeast when making the starter.
