    1. [BAN] Registering of Marriages
    2. Hi all, Just a general question. I am researching my CRIPPS family (pre-1807). I have found their records registered in Chipping Norton but I have hit a brick wall. I can find Cripps ' records registered in Banbury. Can anyone please tell me if my ancestors from Chipping Norton would have registered their records in Banbury? I hope this makes sense! Many thanks, Isabel

    3. Hi All, If anyone knows anything about village life in Wigginton - can you contact me please. I've had an interesting email from a TV company who are currently developing a historical documentary for Channel 4 and part of their research focuses on Wigginton. QUOTE: "I'd like to find out more about village life in Wigginton (sometimes spelt Wiggington), near Banbury, in the late 1930s and early 1940s. I would be very interested to get in contact with any local historians who have researched the history of the village. Even if there's no one who has formally researched the village history, I would also like to talk to people who are knowledgeable about the village, or perhaps even lived there during that time. who'd like to talk to anyone. 3. Hello, I work for a television production company which produces history documentaries for broadcasters such as the BBC. I'm currently developing an idea for a historical documentary for a UK broadcaster. Part of my research focuses on Wigginton (or Wiggington), near Banbury, in the late 1930s and early 1940s. I realise that this list is mainly concerned with family history, but as it is specific to the Banbury area, I was hoping that someone might be able to help. I'd be particularly interested in speaking to someone who has researched the village's history or is just knowledgeable about Wigginton or perhaps even lived there during the late 1930s / early 1940s. If you think you - or someone you know - could help with my research, please do let me know. Thank you for your time. Best wishes, Alex Alex Barrett Blakeway3BM Tel: 020 8743 2040 http://tenalps.shapex.co.uk/blakeway/index.html

    2. ... at least in spirit! I spoke to Angela by telephone this evening, she being concerned about my silence on the List, and learned that she has had a significant malfunction with her computer that is likely to take a few weeks to fix. Hence her very intermittent presence when she gets access to a friend's machine. As for me I am still around but totally immersed in a kitchen rebuild! Will I never learn that retirement is meant to be rest and relaxation? Len

    3. Can anyone do lookups for Ettington and Whitchurch in Warwickshire? (I lived in Whitchurch Hants for 30 years but had never heard of Whitchurch Warwickshire until 6 months ago...) >From Ancestry.com I have At Whitchurch David Malins of Tysoe marriied Ann Grevill w. April 3 1700 I'm assuming that the "w." means Ann was a widow ? Also At Whitchurch William Greville married Anne Nickolls October 2 1679 1) Can anyone tell me whether the PR shows a death of William Greville between 1679 and 1700 so that Ann who married David Malins could be Anne Nickolls, or any birth of an Ann Greville around that time. Also At Ettington Thomas Malin of Tysoe, Farmer, married Margery Grevill of Whitchurch by Licence June 22 1699 2) Looking for a birth of Margery Grevill in Whitchurch around 1680 (poss to William and Ann?) Also (from LDS) Births of children at Ettington in 1744/51 to Grevilll/Mary Malins. 3) Can anyone find a marriage for Greville/Mary and birth of Greville. I'm assuming he is a child of Thomas/Margery but have no confirmation of that. Thanks for any help Jon Malings County Wexford, ROI

    3. Hi Frances, A Scholar aged 4 is quite usual as it was common practice for many children to start school that age. Even in the early 20th century my mother and Aunt both started Colleycroft School, Bedworth, N. Warwickshire at the age of 4 (1906 and 1908). The Poor little mites, in those days, often got fingers smacked with a ruler for not sewing small and neat hemming stitches in their sewing lessons---at the tender age of 5!!!!! Regards, Muriel.

    2. When I did research on the school log books for Adderbury it was quite usual for several children of the same family aged from 3 to 8 maybe to be admitted to school at the same time with teachers remarks as to where can i put them. A child of four or five being admitted often with the remarks he knows nothing cannot read. Because farm workers ofen moved about from place to place this did cause problems. Rhoda
