I'm trying to find early records for William Hopkins, born about 1634, who may have come from the Banbury area. The first record for him is from the Southwark, Surrey Quaker meetings. Some of his friends came from Banburyshire, and I was told that he may have come from Northamptonshire. If anyone knows of a William Hopkins from about that time (early 1600s), please contact me via this list. Thanks! -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Arthur Hopkins Federal Way, Washington
Byfield History Society is holding another of its Photos Open Days on Saturday 27th October from 10am until 8pm in the Village Hall. Admission is £2 and refreshments will be available. The Society has got over 3000 photos from 1850 up to the present day as well as many other interesting documents and films. I will be taking my transcriptions of the Baptism, Marriage and Burial registers (1813 - 1911) for consultation. Anybody with ancestors from Byfield should find plenty to interest them here. Most of the photos have notes attached to them with names, interesting bits of information etc. Do contact me if you have any questions about the day Pam Hicks [email protected]
Hi Nivard, This Alfred being 12 in 1871 would have been too old to be the Alfred on the memorial and according to the 12835 CWGC. Is there a later Alfred born about 1891. I thought you mentioned his birth as being on that date in Hatton. Yes please send me the 1881 91 &01. Hi again Dawn Not sure you saw my mention of the census details on the last Alfred WRIGHTON I posted ? (the one born in Aynho) I still have them if you want them Although you believe its the one born in Halton Warks ? I do not find a Halton in Warks but do find a Hatton in Warwickshire I have found an Alfred WRIGHTON b1891/2 in the 1901 census who is enumerated as born Shrewley (under 2 miles from Hatton) His parents are a Thomas b1857 Thornton Bucks an agricultural engine driver and his wife Eleanor b1845 Tingewick Bucks Thomas b1857's father (also a Thomas) was enumerated as born in Astcote near Towcester some 20 miles from Aynho in 1861 & 1871 I have Alfred in 1901 and his family in 1891 & 1881, then his grandfathers back to 1851 if you would like them Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > Hi All, Thanks to Kim & Barbara I have found out more on the Alfred > Wrighton that is a bit of a mystery on our war memorial. Dawn you are probably looking for the Alfred Wrighton who appears on the 1901 census living in Northampton, born in SHREWLEY, which is a small hamlet near HATTON (not HALTON) near Warwick...I have driven past the turn off for Shrewley lots of times. Isn't there a Mouse end near there too ? or am I just getting old and forgetful? Anyway. his parents were Thomas H (Driver of a Road Steam Roller!) and Eleanor. Thomas was born in Thornton, Buckinghamshire and Eleanor in Tingewick. The children seem to have been born all over the place so maybe he got around a bit on his steam roller. Thank-you Jon, Rosemary and Janet (on and off-list) for your assistance with this. It looks like Alban and Louisa are the one's for me. Hi All, Thanks to Kim & Barbara I have found out more on the Alfred Wrighton that is a bit of a mystery on our war memorial. Military #12835 this is definite. He was born in Halton Warwickshire in 1891 in the Sept quarter. What I need now is the day and month if possible, but most importantly his parents, so that I may link him back to Aynho, and the reason for being on the memorial. I don't have any access to anything in Warks. Thanks in advance Dawn PS I am going to Magdalen College archives on Thursday to check on the hospital that was in Aynho from 1140 to 1485. I am hoping to get names of people that lived in and around Aynhoe during that time, who donated to the hospital. They apparently have extensive records on those. Considering we only know of the current village and it's inhabitants going back to 1640 this could be interesting what names turn up! I will keep you posted on what turns up. Dawn
Hi folks I have found this SKUCE listed on FreeBMD as born September quarter 1900 'Banbury' I believe he mave been born 21st July 1900, possibly Balscote. If anyone spots him in passing, I'd appreciate details. I can't place him in my tree as yet, so the baptism will hopefully do that if I can find his parents names. I also believe he married ? SPICER, but I don't know when. That's more of a long shot, but possibly around 1927/8 Thanks Neil
Hi Nivardi, There definitely were 2 Alfred Wrightons one was the info you gave me. The other had a totally different number and is listed in a different cemetery. They are both on our Village war memorial. There are a total of 5 Wrightons 2 of each were brothers and each set of brothers were 1st cousins to the other set of brothers, all 4 had the same grandparent , my gg gf. The other is a lone one that was born in Halton Warks. But everything else is Aynho if we could find parents, could then tie him back to the village. Hi Dawn: I have not received your book yet, hope it comes soon but have been so busy gardening would not have had time to read it! Mary Hartlett or Hartley seems to vary from source to source, not sure which is correct. I have them marrying in Newbottle 8 July 1799. First son was Thomas baptised 1 June 1800, No, 2 was John bap. 7 March 1802, No. 3 was William bap. 26 Jan. 1806. No. 4 was Joseph bap. 4 Aug. 1811, our David was No. 5 bap. 29 May 1814 and No. 6 was James born 16 July 1816 and bap. 23 March 1817. Joseph and Mary Ann had George born 1837, Susannah b. 1839, John b. 1842, Fred b. 1845 and Lucy b. 1849. George married 27 Jan. 1874 to Hannah Tuckey. Lucy married in 1871 to John James Klein. Hi Barbara, I didn't have that particular Alfred in my info. It is semantics but I have Joseph as the 3rd son of Wm & Mary Hartley not Hartlett, I didn't have Fred as Joseph's son, just Stephen and a girl. The other Alfred I already have and his death, his wife and kids. I have asked Kim if she could find out if the Alfred she has, who's army number is correct could be the same as yours just born in Warwickshire. We shall see - Thanks for your help. Oh did you like the book? Hi Kim, Thanks for your info, we did know about the other Alfred 2); the Alfred 1) number you have fits the one we are looking for, does it give parents names? Because it could still tie up with the one Barbara sent me, if he was just born in Warkshire, not that impossible from here. Thanks, Dawn ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, October 14, 2007 1:31 PM Subject: Re: [BAN] Need help > Hi Dawn > > There seem to be 2 Alfred Wrightons: > > 1) Army number 12835, KIA 1915 May 9, 1st Batt.
