    1. [ELLISON] ENGELS - ELLISON Family Autograph Albums
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" two old autograph albums which belonged to members of the ENGELS Family from Michigan and Oregon. The two albums belonged to sisters Annie and Josie ENGELS and include entries from both family and friends dating from the 1880's into the early 1900's. Family entries include sisters Gertie and Ella ENGELS along with Josie's daughter and a cousin John J. MOUNT of Wyandotte, MI. A photograph of a young man from the MORSE Family of Orchard, IA is also included in one of the albums. Both albums are full of entries from friends in Portland, OR; Rockwood, OR; Cleone (now Fairview), OR; Honolulu, HI; Powells Valley, OR; Seattle, WA; St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada; Wamic, OR; Astoria, OR; Gresham, OR; and Albina, OR. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding the family: Annie ENGELS was b. 22 Jun 1867 in Negaunee, MI to parents Joseph ENGELS (b. 8 Aug 1835 in Germany-d. 28 Oct 1912 in Hillsboro, OR) and Anna OTTO (b. 13 Jun 1839 in Germany-d. 12 Oct 1934 in Gresham, OR). Gertrude Christine ENGELS or ENGLES was b. 24 Nov 1871 in Negaunee, MI to the same parents. Gertrude was one of 5 children born to this couple including, Peter; Mary; Annie; Gertrude Christine; and Josephine ENGELS, all born between 1859 and 1874. Gertrude married John M. REDDING and together they had three children including, Annella; John Joseph; and Gertrude Anna REDDING, all born between 1890 and 1895. Gertrude then married Isaac BAKER (b. 1858) and they had a son, William J. BAKER (b. 1906). Gertrude married a third time, to Archibald Herbert PERSONS (b. 1878) and they had a daughter, June Jeannette PERSONS (b. 1917). Gertrude died in 1970 and is buried in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Portland, OR. Their parents came to Oregon in 1876. Their Mother's obit notes her three daughters as Mrs. PEARSON and Mrs. Ella ELLISON both of Portland, OR, and Mrs. Josie BLISS of Gresham, OR. Josephine ENGLES or ENGELS was b. June 1872 in Oregon and married John BLISS (1862-1950) on 31 Dec 1892 in Portland, OR and then married Frank REEVES on 16 Jun 1954 in Portland, OR. Josie died 8 Jul 1967 in Portland, OR and is buried in the Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Portland, OR. Census records provide the following information: 1880 census of Sandy, OR: Joseph ENGELS, age 44, a Farmer, born Prussia, parents born Prussia Annie ENGELS, wife, age 41, Keeping House, born Prussia, parents born Prussia Peter ENGELS, son, age 21, a Farm Laborer, born MI Mary ENGELS, dau, age 18, born MI Annie ENGELS, dau, age 13, at School, born MI Gertrude C. ENGELS, dau, age 8, at School, born MI Josephine ENGELS, dau, age 6, at School, born MI I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that these wonderful old treasures can be returned to the care of the family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    3. I've got a line of Ellysons/Ellisons, Quaker, in Virginia, late 17th C. up until about 1800. The surname seems to have been Ellyson but then appears as Ellison starting about 1800. Mostly New Kent and Henrico Counties and city of Richmond after a generation or so further east. I had a very difficult time tracing the line until I figured out that they were originally Quakers and it is in those records that their history lies. > On Mar 29, 2016, at 1:06 PM, Keith Whitehouse via <ellison@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > > > Sent from my iPad > > Begin forwarded message: > >> From: "Shelley Cardiel" <cardiels@comcast.net> >> Date: 29 March 2016 at 15:03:00 GMT+1 >> To: "'Keith Whitehouse'" <keithwhitehouse@manx.net> >> Subject: RE: [ELLISON] ELSON Family Photograph >> >> Thank you >> >> -----Original Message----- >> From: Keith Whitehouse [mailto:keithwhitehouse@manx.net] >> Sent: Tuesday, March 29, 2016 1:09 AM >> To: Shelley Cardiel; ellison@rootsweb.com >> Subject: Re: [ELLISON] ELSON Family Photograph >> >> Hi, I thought you might like to know my mother's maiden name was Ellison >> and I have considerable research which takes me back to John Ellison b 1768 >> in Whittington, Staffordshire, England. 3. Hi, I thought you might like to know my mother's maiden name was Ellison and I have considerable research which takes me back to John Ellison b 1768 in Whittington, Staffordshire, England. It is at this point where my research comes to a halt as the only possible father for John is Henry Elson who was married in that place in 1763. It is known that there was considerable variation in spelling of Ellison/Elson/Ellis in those times. So far as I have found only one of my ancestors ventured across to your shores; Sargent John William Ellison (1881-1918) who emigrated to Canada 1910 and enrolled in a Canadian Regiment at the outbreak of the Great War. 2. Jeff P. via
    3. Does anyone have copies of the wills/probates for John Ellison and Susannah Boude recorded in Burlington County, New Jersey. I contacted the courthouse, but it seems that copies without visiting the courthouse myself will be over $30 for a few pages. John Ellison died intestate but had an inventory taken April 29, 1761.After he died Susannah remarried to John Atkinson abt 1764. Susannah had a will dated Oct 4 1794, which was proved on Mar 21, 1795. If anyone has these documents and would be willing to copy them or scan them in I'd be really grateful. I will pay copy and postage costs Email me at genealogynuts@sbcglobal.net if you can help. Thanks! Jeff

I don't know how other states work, but often in Virginia, county historical societies will do some court house research for very limited fees, I've used these services several times to good avail. In his marriage record his guardian is listed as Susanna Ellison. There is a Susanna Hooper (b.1776 in England) who m. Jesse Ellison in Henrico in 1800. I am looking for his parents. It would seem logical that Susanna and Jesse Ellison were his parents but I understand that often people other than parents were appointed guardians at this time in VA. Any help at all will be gratefully appreciated!
