I would like to thank everyone who's written with clues for my search, but so far with my limited info, I still can't get very far on my Ellis family. I found that during the 1860 TN census in Davidson Co., TN, my HALLEY FRANCES ELLIS (b. abt 1815 in NC - married Thomas J. McClendon July 31, 1837 in Davdison Co., TN) lived near a LOUIS ELLIS who was born abt 1790 in NC. HALLEY FRANCES (ELLIS) and Thomas J. McClendon had the following children: JANE N., JEFF, SIMON, ANNA ROSS, and WINIFRED MCCLENDON. Any info would be appreciated. Family tales say that Halley Frances's daughter ANNA ROSS MCCLENDON was half Cherokee, I wonder if this is in confusion with the Ellis family coming from Cherokee, NC? - I obviously don't know.
