Greetings to all Ellis Researchers, I have joined this list in hopes of finding a woman whose family has eluded me for years. I know almost nothing about her but this is what I have: Her name was Fanny Ellis she would have been born about 1840 probably in Miss. She married James Conn and had at least 4 children one of them was my great grandmother Sallie Fletcher Conn born in Tupelo in 1872 and married in Iuka in about 1892. Family history and a photograph that my mother saw of Fanny Ellis when my mother was young indicates that she was Native American most likely Cherokee. The 1870 census does not list the family in either Tishomingo or Itawamba counties. Fanny Ellis is said to have died when Sallie was about 1 or 2 years old and Sallie was raised by a step mother whose name I do not have. I have found Ellis' in Monroe County but not Itawamba or Tishomingo. Does the name or possible location of Ellis family sound familiar to anyone?
