    1. [ELLIS-L] Re: ELLIS-D Digest V98 #155
    2. Dear Jenny and other Lowestoft Ellis Cousins, I'm looking for siblings and ancestors and other information about Charlotte Ellis, b. 1811, Lowestoft, Suffolk, Eng., d. aft. 1863. Charlotte m. Henry Hart of Monksley, Suffolk, a sawyer. I don't know when they moved to Norwich, Norfolk, Eng. Jenny, it seems to me that plain chance wouldn't account for the number of given names we have in common. I don't know when Henry died. Their children were Susan Amelia, Frances, Hanna, Edward and Claudius Victor Spencer, my grandfather, and Thomas. Grandfather was given his middle names for David Victor Spencer, a Mormon missionary, from America who blessed him and had considerable influence on the family. So much influence that Susan Amelia with her husband Edward Strange, and their four daughters, set off for Salt Lake City. Utah but didn't get there. Frances came to New Jersey, USA, and Claudius, 14, came later and wound up in Colorado with the Stranges. He started a lifelong friendship with the young William (later Buffalo Bill) on his wagon train and became a wealthy rancher and businessman in Las Animas County, CO. I learned recently that Charlotte Ellis was descended from Robert Hook of Lowestoft. Hook is credited with saving 600 people from drowning in the North Sea. Roberta
