Fellow Rooters, We are researching two ELLIS lines. One is my husband's ggg-grandmother and the other is my ggg-grandmother. My husband's line: Charlotte ELLIS was b Oct 9, 1817 in New York (possibly Yates Co). She married Nelson W. DICKERSON Feb 1, 1839 Huron Co., Ohio. They are in the Medina Co., Ohio 1840 Fed Census with a Moses ELLIS living NEXT door to them. I wonder if this Moses ELLIS who listed 1 male 10-15 yrs, 2 males 15-20 yrs & himself? 40-50 yrs, then 1 female 5-10, 1 female 15-20 yrs & 1 female 50-60 yrs (wife?). We thought this Moses ELLIS would be a good candidate for Charlotte's father. In her husband's obituary, it stated, "In 1838 he removed to Madina County, Ohio, where the following year, he married Miss Charlotte Ellis, his present wife, whom he had known from early childhood, having attended the same school, and recited in the same classes." Charlotte would have been about 21 yrs of age at the time of their marriage. My line: Piety ELLIS b Nov 18, 1810 in Tn (county unknown) married William STILES 1829. As you can see, we know very little about this person! Hoping to fine someone researching one of these lines.
