I am searching for the family of James Ellis b. abt 1843 in Tennessee (according to the 1870 Federal Census. James Ellis married Nancy Grumbles in Dallas Co. Alabama. The 1870 census shows James, age 27 and Nancy, age 24 with their son Samuel, age 2. The next residence on the census in James Ellis, age 47, Ellen age 40, Dicey age 25 and Jefferson age 5. All born in the state of Alabama. I do not know if this older James Ellis is related to my James or not, but sharing the same name and being next door neighbors, causes me to believe that they may be related, if not father and son.
