It has an index. It begins with the immigrant Edward Ellis (arrived in Surrey Co., Va. 1636), and traces all his descendants, up to about 1800, or 1850 at the latest. You probably won't find a copy for sale. There were only 100 printed in 1979. Ellis Cousins has a copy members can borrow, but I understand there is a waiting list. The LDS has it on microfilm, and you can borrow the film for a nominal fee. I have a photocopy of the book, and will try lookups within reason. BUT, the index is not sorted by date, county, or anything else except name. So if you are looking for William or John, you are on your own. There is also a wife index, so I can check by wife's maiden name, often a better bet. --David David B.
