War. My Nathan Ellis had not been listed/proven until I made my application last summer. I had to get together all the proof for every ancestor from myself back to Nathan, and still find proof that he served. He had made no application for a pension, or bounty land so I had to get his military service, and that was from the VA militia so it was not in DC. It can be done, so even if your person is not listed, keep looking for his proof of service. If you know the family was here in 1775, don't give up. The birth dates for a soldier would be about 1721 to 1769. The dates of military service are 1775 to 1784. Good luck, Joanne
