My great-grandmother was Louise Ellis, b 1850 in Brooklyn, NY. She married Joseph McCastline (or McCaslin), and they had 5 children: Robert, Louise, William, Edwin, and Ida. Louise's death certificate says that her father was Marshall Ellis, b. Baltimore, MD. Her mother was Mary Ferguson, b. Sheffield, England. I have found a Marshall Ellis on the 1850 census index for Brooklyn, but I have not yet had a chance to look at the actual census page yet. I would love any information on Marshall or his wife Mary.
