Looking for information on my Grandfather, Joseph Humphrey Ellis, who married Mary Sylvestre (A Penobscott Indian of the Abenaki tribe?) born in Bury, Compton, Quebec 2/19/1841,and had 9 children: Ester-1858, Rosanna Francis-1860, Axce A.-1863, Joseph Mylow-1865, Delphy Silvey-1867, Missouri Caroline-1869, Mary Agnus-1872, V. Edgar (my father)-1875 and Leslie Munroe-1878. I have reached a dead end with Joseph and his Dad, John Ellis (m. Sarah Hood (Houd)). I do not know birth dates of Joseph or his dad nor do I know where they are buried. There are family stories that have them coming to Canada or the US from England(Whales/Scotland?) together, other stories say John came with his wife and had Joseph in Canada. I have a school tax receipt signed by Joseph Ellis from the Municipality of Barford, Quebec, Canada approximately 40 miles from Bury/Sherbrooke, Canada dated July 4, 1890.
