I've been reading, with interest, the migration of a lot of the readers' ELLIS ancestors. I have two ELLIS lines which we are tracing. My husband's ggg-grandmother, Charlotte ELLIS, was b Oct 9, 1817 in New York. She married a Nelson W. DICKERSON who was a "schoolmate" according to his obituary. He was b 1815 in Barrington, Yates Co., NY. It's certainly possible that Charlotte ELLIS was also born in that county. They married in Huron Co., Ohio Feb 1839 & they were in 1840 Fed census in Westfield Twp, Medina Co., Ohio then in 1850 in Butler Twp, Miami Co., Indiana then in 1857 in the Minnesota Territory census in Mankato, Blue Earth County until his death in 1881. My ELLIS line is my ggg-grandmother, Piety ELLIS b Nov 18, 1810 in Tn (county unk). Piety ELLIS married William STILES (also b in Tn). It is assumed their first 6 children were b as my line, John William STILES was b in Tn Oct 16, 1830 (their 5th child) then William Sanders STILES was b Oct 17, 1832 in Lincoln Co., Tn. Their 8th child, Margaretta STILES was b abt 1836 in Missouri. Then my line from the above John William STILES who md louisa Caroline GREGORY md Apr 19, 1849 Greene Co., Mo where my g-grandfather James Wiley STILES was b Feb 5, 1852 in Springfield, Mo who md Mary Amanda SMITH June 24, 1869 in Williamson Co., Tx. My ELLIS line was in Tn>Mo>Tx Hoping to connect with other ELLIS lines!
