The Ellis's that I am looking for seem to have been around Cabbarrus, N.C. I was researching Thomas Ellis Dawes Roll # that many Lewis's applied under but I am not sure this is the correct Thomas Ellis. All my Browns applications referred back to Thomas Ellis and his daughter Polly who married Aaron Brown. They left North Carolina and went to Hamilton County, Tn. prior to the removal in 1838. They were all denied citizenship because their ancestors were not party to the treaty of 1835. I suspect that they were avoiding the removal. They later went to Wise County, Texas although one of them did end up in IT Ok. I have not been able to locate Polly or Thomas by normal methods. I will gather my material and repost with dates and application #'s. Thomas Ellis was according to the applications full blood Cherokee. My dates are running 1750 through about 1835-40 when they left for Tennessee. I can also find no record of Simeon W Brown in NC who was Aaron's oldest son and my GGGrandfather. I believe there is a Polly Eles on the 1817 Roll but I haven't been able to confirm this. If there are any Lewis's on this list, I have all of those applications applying with Thomas Ellis and Sally Ellis. The primary Lewis is James. Charlene
