My ELLIS connection is Ann(e) Elice ELLIS (b. July 1, 1612) who married Edward CULVER (also found as COLLVER/COLVER) (b. 1610 in England). He came over with the WINTHROPs to settle the Massachusetts Bay Colony. I'm trying to locate information about Ann(e)'s befores -- they OBVIOUSLY came over early in the beginnings of the settling of this country, but I don't know who they were, when, etc. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Picked up this tidbit while going through my Ellis files. I don't have any other information on him beyond what I'm posting here. This was sent to me by a fellow Ellis researcher. There was a Capt. Rebuen ELLIS who was the commander of Company F of the 48th Alabama Infantry Regiment. The company was from Blount Co., Alabama and was formed in the spring of 1862 in Auburn, Alabama.

Jackson ELLIS, b abt 1813 in Georgia was living in Henry Co., AL with his second? wife Sarah in 1850. His children were S.C., Nancy, M.C., Rachel, Martha, Lovina, Eliza, and Lucresa. He apparently just moved there from Georgia because his baby, Lucresa, was born in Georgia. His daughter Rachel married James L. Grace. Does anyone have any information on this family? While looking through a book called "Passports of Southeastern Pioneers 1770-1823" by Dorothy Williams Potter, I found mention of two ELLIS names. This book is a record of passports issued for crossing Indian lands. These two names were in the Georgia passports section. There isn't much information on them but maybe they will be helpful to somebody. The first one was Ephraim ELLIS. He and two other men, Seth SINGLETON and Benjamin Ellis SINGLETON, were issued passports through the Creek Nation on 27 Sept 1809 from Montgomery Co., Georgia. The passport order says it was issued on the recommendation of a number of respectable inhabitants of the County of Montgomery so it's possible these three men resided in that county. The second one mentioned was Underhill ELLIS. He was apparently a soldier who had been serving a 45 day tour of duty escorting familes from the lower end of Clynch mountain to the settlement of Cumberland. He was discharged from that duty on 23 Oct 1788. This was in Davidson County. Marsha
