    1. [ELLIS-L] Ellis Indian Traders (?)
    2. Steve J. Camer
    3. Ellis's were possibly Indian traders or connected to the Indian trade in the southeast, as the name is listed in the surname index of a three volume set of Indian affairs journals, located at http://members.aol.com/rarebk Once at the site, go to Booklists, then Native American Genealogy, and scroll down to the Cherokee Ancestry CD. There you will see a link to the surnames. This site has some fascinating Indian genealogy research sources, to include an on-line tutorial that explains how to conduct effective Native American Genealogy research (the 1835 Cherokee census is within that), also 2 CD's that appear to have magnitudes of resource material, and a surname index to Starr's "Old Cherokee Families and their Genealogy." There is more, but too much to list here. Very intriguing and unique site. Steve ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 2. Rev. Thomas Oliver ELLIS MD (1808-1879), son of Josiah Shelton ELLIS (1778-1834) and Elizabeth Bethena GILLIAM (ca 1790-ca 1810), was apparently born in Louisiana Territory (now Perry County, MO) and moved several times, finally settling in Fresno County, CA. He had a half-brother in Texas (George Lunsford ELLIS) and left many descendants in California. I am particularly interested in contacting other descendants. I have much historical information to share. Connie Davis Vashon Island, WA

    3. Dear Cousins, It's been a while since I've posted this message, so I'll post again in hopes that some new cousins are reading it. I am of the fairly well-known Wright and Texas County Ellis families. My GG-Grandparents were William Benjamin "Buck" Ellis and his 2nd wife Mary Boatman. Their son Andrew Patrick Ellis and his wife Ida Elizabeth Watson Ellis are my G-Grandparents, and their son Arthur Eugene Ellis was my grandfather. My grandfather got himself into some kind of legal hot water in the 1930s....don't know what it was and I don't suppose it matters now. But he died, at age 38, in September of 1943 of Typhoid Fever. He is buried near Neosho, in Newton County. Besides having a huge number of grandchildren still surviving him, he is survived by three children: my mother, Vera Lee Davis, her sister Charlotte Ann Thompson, and his son and namesake Alvin Eugene Ellis. His one remaining sister, Beulah, died last year. No one in our family has a single photograph of him. I'd love to give my mother and her sister and brother a picture of their dad. If anyone has any old photos that they think might be Arthur Eugene Ellis, could you be in contact with me? I've no idea what he looked like. I'm told he may have had red hair. Thanks a heap! Your Kansas cousin, Billy Walker Milton, KS
