Hi Listers, I am looking for information about my great grandfather, John Chaplin. John was born about 1867 in Bermondsey. On the 1881 Census he was living in Lenton Nottingham, with his mother, Jane and a brother, Alfred and a sister, Kate. there was no sign of a father. By 1891 he had married Elizabeth Cheetham but was still living with his mother, still in Lenton. His wife. Elizabeth, however, was living as a boarder with one of her married sisters. They had two children, Kit and Florence, my grandmother. Sometime after Florence was born in 1899, John either dies or leaves because Elizabeth remarries and becomes Elizabeth Carey. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has any information about these people. There is an awesome new site at http://www.gencircles.com that has an ELLIS Surname Club. The research site has SmartMatch that matches up your research with that of other club members and lets you know who is researching the same individuals, etc. etc. It is really neat and thought you would all like to hear about it. I researched it and found several new "cousins". Check it out!
Re: Recent Posting on Ellis Family of Spotsylvania Co., VA. Seeking Parents and place of birth of Joseph Ellis, born ca 1785 and died ca 1845, Page Co., VA. M/1 Barbara Alther, dau. of Frederick and Barbara Alther, 1807 Shenandoah Co., VA. (present-day Page Co.) M/2 Rachel Jones, 1817, same county. Children (first marriage) Martin (m. Elizabeth Fox), Elizabeth (m. Henry Hiestand/Heiston) and Barbara (m. Adam Fox). Was Joseph Ellis associated with the Spotsylvania Co. Ellis Family or any other Ellis Family which you are familiar? The expert on the ELLIS family of Spotsylvania County, Virginia is Ellis Moore, 984 Esplanade, Pelham Manor, NY 10803. According to his research, the William Ellis who died 19 May 1766 in Spots was the son of Hezekiah Ellis and his wife Elizaabeth Wright. William married Elizabeth Wright. They had three sons, Hezekiah, William and John. There does not seem to be any Elizabeth Hawkins connected to this ELLIS family. Regards, Barrie Rich Gaiusiv@aol.com 813 286-0338
If there is anyone on this list who can clarify or at least reduce the confusion that I am experiencing with one Wm Ellis who d. in Spotsylvania Co. in 1766, please contact me. I seem to be having trouble in sorting out his wife/wives(?)and children. Another researcher informed me that Wm Ellis had a dau., Elizabeth, who married John Hawkins of Spotsylvania Co. However, I can't seem to place this Elizabeth Ellis Hawkins with the right Ellis family. Any leads/help at all would be appreciated. Regards, -- Larry D. Hamilton Coats P.O. HI Listers, Does anyone have any information about the Town Arms public house situated at 113-115 Willoughby Street Lenton Notts. I am still looking for Miles Ellis. He went to Montgomery County, TN before 1820. He was on the 1820-1840 census and the 1841 tax list. They are not on the 1850 Montgomery County or surrounding areas census. According to the census records, he was born about 1790. We think this is the same one that married Polly Bobbitt in Warren County, NC in 1813. Accourding to the different census, Miles and Polly had 7 sons and 4 daughters. We think Lewis and Miles Thomas Ellis might be 2 of his sons but not sure. We can not find anyone from this line after 1840 census. What happened to all of his children??? Who are they and where did they go? I have looked at surrounding states for Miles with no luck. Miles Thomas Ellis shows up in a marriage record in Montgomery Cty. in 1851. Lewis Ellis's last child was born in 1849. Does anyone have any clues to Miles Ellis. He is not the Miles Ellis in Wilson County, TN. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks, Debby

Just wanted to answer a question which came up with one of our Ellis cousins. The web site that I have been posting the Ellis photos & documents is a free site. You can view the site with out regestering but if you would like to contribute to the site , and I hope you will, then you will need to join the community for the Ellis web page. There is not fee involved. It just keeps alittle control over who is posting onto the web site. If you have any questions please email me. I would very much like to make this web site a place for all Ellis researchers to share their findings with each other. One Ellis cousin helping another. Pat Holling pholling@effectnet.com

Hi, I'm new to the list and need some help. Thomas M. ELLIS, b. c1866 in unknown, married Sarah Jane Pace Swan in 1889 in Randolph Co., Ark. Sarah was born c1865 and was the widow of Benjamin Swan who died about 1887-1888. Benjamin and Sarah were the parents of 3 boys: Ambers Luther, Fred and Murt/Mert Swan. Thomas and Sarah and all 3 Swan boys were in Randolph County in 1900. Thomas, Sarah, Ambers Luther and Mert, all disappear from Randolph Co. by 1910. Fred is still there. It was reported in the newspaper in 1906 that "Luther Swan" lived in Missouri, but I didn't find him on the 1910 MO. Soundex. Any help in locating any of these people would be greatly appreciated.
