Mary "Polly" Ellis was born March 24, 1795 and died August 5, 1855. She is buried in Curry Cemetery (Old Baptist) in Mattoon Illinois. I descend from William Ellis, son of James Ellis and Sarah Riggs and would be happy to share information in that line with anyone who is looking. Barbara Holman HolmanBE@aol.com

Lisa, Could you please check your book for Matthew Edward (Matt E.) Ellis, born 9/13/1844 supposedly in Calhoun, GA and died 4/4/1922 in Atlanta, GA. Married 11/3/1874 to Neomi, Naoma, Naomi Josephine (Josie) Phillips, b. 4/27/1849, died 1/15/1897. Both are buried in Fain Cemetery, Calhoun, GA. Would love to know the name of his parents and where they were from. Thank you, June
I have read the posts on James Ellis and Sarah Riggs Ellis, and would like to add that I am descended through the Ellis line--even though my husband's name is Riggs. I have taken a look at the COUSINS BY THE DOZENS book at our library, and was very disappointed to discover that it contains numerous errors on my line of this family. I am sure that the person who put the book together put the errors in unknowingly, but you must check out the information yourself to be sure the facts are correct. I descend through James Ellis, his son James Ellis, Jr., to James Carroll Ellis whose daughter Mary Francis Ellis was my grandmother. James Ellis, Jr., migrated along with others of the family to Lincoln County, Tennessee, and then some of the family went to Illinois, I believe. I have a little information on Sarah Riggs' family, and think that she came from New Jersey originally. Am not sure of this line. I will try to send what I have on this family to anyone that is interested. Joyce Park Riggs
Hi Lisa Would you mind looking in the book you have been referring to for an Obediah Ellis. He was born about 1745 and died in 1823 in Scott Co., Kentucky. Thank you so very much. Sandi
Lisa: Please check your wonderful book for a Moses Ellis, moved through TN where he married Rachel Curtis, to Montgomery County, MO where he died in c. 1847. Thanks! Jenny
Lisa, does it give a birth date for Mary Polly ELLIS? I am looking for that gal who was born about 1789 in NH, MA or NY (depending on which census record you look at). I doubt that her father was James, but I don't know for sure who it was. Thanks - Molly in MO "Lisa R. Lisa, where and when do we find James & Sarah Riggs Ellis? Many of the names seem to tie to my line which was in the Old 96/Abbeville area of SC for most of the 19th century. joe harrington -----Original Message----- From: Lisa R. Donna. Suggest you look for your ancestors in two places. 1. Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Chester and Lancaster counties) late 1600's into the mid 1700's, then on to Virginia. Try Loudoun and Franklin Counties in VA. and, say Sumner County, TN. Lots of Thomas and John Ellises. This was a migratory route. 2. Same time frame but in Sussex and Essex counties, VA. Good Hunting. Lloyd D. Ellis
Hello: I have searched for years on info about my GG grandfather Thomas Ellis and his wife Frances Fannie Ingle. All I know is Thomas Ellis was born around 1860 +/- and one of their sons was named John Ellis. John was born in 1885. I descend from this son John. .... It is thought that they lived in Missouri and Mississippi and Marion Co. Alabama. They both died in Alabama. I can not find out any info about how my Ellis line arrived in America, or who Thomas's parents are. I have wondered if Thomas came to America from somewhere else. If you can match any of this info please let me know. .... Donna Ellis Franks franks@sonet.net
Does anyone have a JAMES C. ELLIS, b: circa 1830/1 in PA/OH? Known facts: m: EMMA HERSHEY in OH, 1878 (Miami county record). Civil War veteran, OH d: 1891, Troy, OH, Miami county (Cemetary index, Miami county, OH) Any help would be greatly appreciated! Carl Ellis
I appreciate your point of view. However, this does not happen frequently, and I appreciate this warning, which I probably would not have seen anywhere else. We "forgive" you for sending your warning to the list----we all make mistakes and we all do things not every one approves of. (I think it's called "human"!) Besides, you are new to this list so no harm done if you happened to get off the genealogy subject---esp. when the list is "slow"! Your names are interesting but only because my mother-in-law is named "Maxine Ellis" and my husband's aunt (by marriage) is named "Virginia Ellis". My husband is a direct descendant of the Edward Ellis line (Surry/Sussex, VA) that Dixie McCrary wrote her book about. He descends through Hardy Ellis (NC>TN>KY). I'm interested in hearing from anyone working on the Ellis line in Middle Tennessee---especially in and around Montgomery County. Does anyone know what happened to Miles (Hardy's brother)? Does anyone know anything about Thomas? (Hi, Debbie!) Any information would be appreciated! Sandy Ellis
I thought this sight was used to track down ones ancestors and not to post the local news. I continue to read articles pertaining to tricks that are being played on women. Certainly there are other places to post this info.......................Lets keep this totally a genealogy site. Thank you
HEAR! HEAR! I agree. Genealogy mailing lists should be kept for genealogy.
I have information that a "Missouri Ellis" married Lewis Buckner, 17 Nov. 1881 in Boone Co., MO. If anyone has any information on this "Missouri" (age, place of birth, etc.) I would like to hear from you. I am trying to see if she is my "lost" Missouri. TIA Ann in NE Texas
