They had a son, Orville Woodworth born in 1807 at Columbia Co NY. Abigail ELLIS' father may have been Gideon ELLIS(1759-?) Do any of you have any information on Abigail or her parents? Thank you for your attention, Joyce Mason Palm Springs, CA

    1. [ELLIS-L] Re: John Ellis, Sr. and Jr. of VA
    2. Estel Beaty
    3. In 1728 the Dividing line between VA and NC was surveyed and the history of that event was written by Wiliam Byrd, one of the Commissioners representing VA, in two versions "History of the Dividing Line betwixt Virginia and North Carolina and "The Secret History of the Line". In both books mention is made of John Ellis, and his son, John Ellis, Jr. who worked with the surveyors as they measured and toiled their way from Currituck Inlet through the Great Dismal Swamp past the Dan River to the present boundries of Stokes County, NC. Byrd was instrumental in hiring the Virginia hands and he chose men who were "most of them Indian Traders and expert Woodsmen." Fifteen of the group had been recommended by a Mr. Mumford. The crew was told to meet Mumford at "Warrens Mill, arm'd with a Gun & Tomahawk on the 27th of February, & furnished with Provisions for ten days...after which time they were to be furnisht by the Government." The following day they crossed the river and proceeded "in good order through Surry County." Does anyone know what family the two Ellis men were of or what county they were from? Also, In what county did they rendezvous? Estel [email protected] _________________________________________________________________ pp. 28-32. 3. Hi, Listers! Found a nice page that gives lots of general information about land records. It might be helpful in understanding what some records mean and when certain types of land grants occurred, etc. I found it very useful for some good basic facts about potentially confusing deeds, etc. Enjoy, Cindy H-MB http://www.ultranet.com/~deeds/landref.htm

    3. Check the Northampton Co., NC and surrounding areas very closely. The BRYANT family here originated in Isle of Wight Co., VA and was in Bertie Co., NC by the 1720s. My SUMNER family of that area intermarried with both families and I suspect the ELLIS family there intermarried with them too. If you get a little further back, I descend from: Robert ELLIS, d.c.1740 Northampton Co., NC Robert ELLIS, m. Delilah and died c.1810 (wife 1817), Northampton Co., NC Benjamin, d.c.1807 in York Co., SC m. 3. Forgive; this is the easiest way that I can send the names and addresses to the new computer. Unless, that is, you write to me, and the address is stored automatically. Write to me. We are not flooded out yet, and my children in the Houston area are still safe, I think. When it rains, it pours. Plan to go to the Ellis reunion in Junction, TX on Sept. 26; beginning at 10 a.m. Swimming, fishing, etc. on the river, but I will be looking at genealogy! 3. Peggy---I was disappointed that my William Ellis (b. 1798) was not listed among your Benjamin's (b. 1763) children. The time frame fits, the area fits, but no William. I still think this may be my line, for that reason. Could you tell me where you got your info, so I can use it as a lead? My William married Phoebe Lacy (b. 1799 NC). They lived in McMinn or Grainger County, TN, before moving on to Missouri. Diane in OH

You have to put them in individually or hunt my county and maybe first two letters of the last name, etc. Hope you find some goodies! Enjoy!
