I don't think your Wm. is s/o Benj. Ellis/Sara Copeland. There are ongoing articles about that group in nearly every issue of the newsletter. I have always thought your Wm. was related in some way to the Methodist Minister crowd coming out of Blount Co. Ala. but have seen no proof. That Methodist group goes back to the Surrey/Sussex Co. VA bunch mentioned here in note by Cindy Hale. Ezekiel Ellis/Peggy Mackey and their young'uns were all in McMinn Co. TN with your Wm. Ezekiel (b 1799) was s/o Jeremiah Ellis/Dicey Murphree of "Murphree Valley" in Blount Co. Ala. (See newsletter article Spring 1993.) Ransom Ellis of Springfield MO has a really good book out on Ezekiel Ellis. If you're interested in that, e-mail me direct and I will give you his address, since he may not want it made public on the internet. Note to Dick Cisco and anyone else hunting for "The Ellis Line From Surrey/Sussex In Virginia" by Miss Dixie McCrary, dec'd.: The book is out of print. LDS library has it. Also the U. at Knoxville TN's Lawson McGee Library. Also Ellis Cousins Newsletter loans it out to people, but you have to be a member in good standing with that group to get on their loan-out list. Address for Ellis Cousins is 1201 Maple St., Friona, TX 79035 Sorry I don't have anything on Brian O'Leary's John Ellis of County Cork, Ireland. Carol in TX

The Ellis book I referred to was: The Ellis Line from Surry & Sussex in Virginia by Dixie McCrary It is in the Dallas Public Library. You can go to their catalog search at: http://lib.ci.dallas.tx.us/marion search Elllis Family The information page has $20.00 on it in place of the ISBN number. I do not know what this means? You might check it out and call or email the library for more information? CindyB At 06:29 AM 9/28/98 -0700, Richard L. I am seeking information about Elija or Eliga Ellis born in North Carolina and married to Mary Ellis. Their daughter was Jane Ellis b. 4-27-1869 in Wilson Co. N.C. according to her death certificate. Family history has her born in Plymouth, N.C. Any information on this Ellis family would be appreciated. Mike Simmons Pierce City, MO.
Bailey- My apologies! You are right, Benjamin Lankford and Temperance Posey were my g-g-g-granparents, not Susanna. Susanna Chadwell was married to Benjamin Posey and they were my g-g-g-g-grandparents and Temperance Poseys parents. That is what I get for getting in a hurry and posting something from memory. Nice to meet a new cousin! Steve
I have an ELLIS "brickwall." He is Thomas ELLIS who was b. in Ireland about 1810. He m. Margaret - and they had at least two children, Fannie in 1839 and William in 1843, in Ireland. Fannie m. James ALLISON in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1861. I would like to share information about Thomas and Fannie ELLIS and James ALLISON. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Tim TILLYER in Escondido, CA
I have been trying for years to find the parents of my g-grandfather ENOCH ELLIS. He was born in 1847 in Lee County, Virginia and moved to Harlan County after marrying MARY NOE, daughter of AMBROSE NOE and ELIZA ANN LANKFORD. Ambrose is the son of CHARLES NOE and Eliza Ann is the daughter of BENJAMIN LANKFORD and SUSANNA POSEY. I have checked the 1830 Lee County, VA census and can find no Ellis' listed so I'm guessing that Enoch Ellis' father was not in Lee County at that time. My second cousin (now deceased) thought that Enochs parents were ABE and ELIZABETH ELLIS possibly coming from North Carolina. I would appreciate any information that anyone has about them. I am looking for information on John Ellis and his descendants from Ratooragh, Schull, Co. Cork, Ireland. I do not know John's spouse's name or his date of birth. However, he had 5 children: George, James, John, Michael, and another whose name I do not know. George was born around 1870 and married Ellen Hegarty from Mountgabriel, Co. Cork, in 1903. They had 4 children one of whom was my grandmother. I believe all the children emigrated from Ireland - some to England, some to the States. Sound familiar to anyone? -------------------------------------------- Brian P. O'Leary - [email protected] http://www.geocities.com/~bpoleary
Dick, These names look similar to some of the names from the book Ellis Line from Surry & Essex VA.
