I don't think your Wm. is s/o Benj. Ellis/Sara Copeland. There are ongoing articles about that group in nearly every issue of the newsletter. I have always thought your Wm. was related in some way to the Methodist Minister crowd coming out of Blount Co. Ala. but have seen no proof. That Methodist group goes back to the Surrey/Sussex Co. VA bunch mentioned here in note by Cindy Hale. Ezekiel Ellis/Peggy Mackey and their young'uns were all in McMinn Co. TN with your Wm. Ezekiel (b 1799) was s/o Jeremiah Ellis/Dicey Murphree of "Murphree Valley" in Blount Co. Ala. (See newsletter article Spring 1993.) Ransom Ellis of Springfield MO has a really good book out on Ezekiel Ellis. I have an ELLIS "brickwall." He is Thomas ELLIS who was b. in Ireland about 1810. He m. Margaret - and they had at least two children, Fannie in 1839 and William in 1843, in Ireland. Fannie m. I have been trying for years to find the parents of my g-grandfather ENOCH ELLIS. He was born in 1847 in Lee County, Virginia and moved to Harlan County after marrying MARY NOE, daughter of AMBROSE NOE and ELIZA ANN LANKFORD. Ambrose is the son of CHARLES NOE and Eliza Ann is the daughter of BENJAMIN LANKFORD and SUSANNA POSEY. I have checked the 1830 Lee County, VA census and can find no Ellis' listed so I'm guessing that Enoch Ellis' father was not in Lee County at that time. My second cousin (now deceased) thought that Enochs parents were ABE and ELIZABETH ELLIS possibly coming from North Carolina. I would appreciate any information that anyone has about them. However, he had 5 children: George, James, John, Michael, and another whose name I do not know. George was born around 1870 and married Ellen Hegarty from Mountgabriel, Co. Cork, in 1903.
