VANESSA, I believe this book is out of print and the author is deceased; I cannot attest to either of these statements as true and do not know where I heard this. I have also heard that some members of the ELLIS family are working to update Dixie's book and republish. I have no particulars on this. My pages are xeroxed copies of selected pages, which were furnished to me by another researcher a number of years ago. Perhaps someone either on this list or connected with the ELLIS COUSINS NEWSLETTER can respond to your query and update us on this possible republication of Dixie's book? Sorry I wasn't of more help. :) LaDoris [email protected] ===========reply query======= >On Sun, 10 Jan 1999 15:14:01 -0600 >LaDoris,> >Does Anyone know whare i can go to purchase this book >Dixie McCrary book, "The Ellis Line from Surry- >Sussex in Virginia.....", >Vanessa <[email protected]> ===========original query============= At 04:58 PM 1/10/99 -0600, LaDoris wrote: >Hello,> >The information I have is scant. Greetings to all Ellis Researchers, I have joined this list in hopes of finding a woman whose family has eluded me for years. I know almost nothing about her but this is what I have: Her name was Fanny Ellis she would have been born about 1840 probably in Miss. She married James Conn and had at least 4 children one of them was my great grandmother Sallie Fletcher Conn born in Tupelo in 1872 and married in Iuka in about 1892. Family history and a photograph that my mother saw of Fanny Ellis when my mother was young indicates that she was Native American most likely Cherokee. The 1870 census does not list the family in either Tishomingo or Itawamba counties. Fanny Ellis is said to have died when Sallie was about 1 or 2 years old and Sallie was raised by a step mother whose name I do not have. I have found Ellis' in Monroe County but not Itawamba or Tishomingo. Does the name or possible location of Ellis family sound familiar to anyone? To anybody - I am looking for Thomas Ellis b. abt 1784 in South Carolina. He married Judah Wright from North Carolina. Two of their children were Judah A. Ellis, b. 1813 in Spencer Co., Indiana and Jane Ellis, b. 1822 in Indiana. They had other children but I don't know their names. I have reason to believe this family was either Chippewa, Choctaw or Cherokee. I have pictures of Judah and Jane (both are my grandmothers) and they are definitely Indian of some kind. Any information or clues on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, M.J.
