Brant My Ellis's came out of Iredell, NC, into Cherokee Co., NC and into Monore and McMinn Co., TN. Earliest back that I have is Samuel, to Joshua, to Allen b. ca 1796 m. Laurana Weeks (they are on Cherokee Co Census), to James (also on Cherokee Co., Census), to John Allen Ellis and Cordelia Kilby (believed married in Cherokee Co.), they moved to Monroe Co., TN. Cordelia died in Rafter, TN and John died in McMinn Co., TN., but raised his children in Monroe Co., TN (Tellico Plains and Coker Creek). Dear Nancy S., Thank you for this info. Please note regarding the 1st address you've given - that when I attempted to go there, I rec'd the message of it being an erroneous address. However, the second resulted in obtaining the information needed to resolve this and I have marked THE SECOND ADDRESS accordingly, as I hope everyone will do as well. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience my reaction may have caused. However, considering the level of mistrust presently exhibited by our government it is certainly not unimaginable. We support an income tax system that is unconstitutional, have taxation without representation, and are charged for services- phone co. to long distance provider- web browser - internet service, etc., to be able to access yet other services. "When the major networks and or broadcasters sued a news package [PrimeTime24] provided by satellite services an injunction was issued by the U.S. District Court for Southern Florida to stop the sales within broadcasters' "grade B" signal areas, defined by the FCC as viewable 50% of the time by 50% of the area's residents. This ruling may affect as many as one million dish owners." [ John Linder, Member of Congress from Georgia] I feel that his numbers are much lower than this. What this means is that people who live in areas given no choice , where there is no local broadcasting available to receive the broadcasts of the major news networks because regular antennae won't reach, or cable services aren't available have no voice in what they are able to freely access. They will no longer - after February 28, 1999, be allowed to receive satellite delivery of so called -"local signals" - even when there is no local programming choice available to them. The choice to use a satellite system is clearly not always a case of cable versus satellite. Through this action, the government is deciding what we are allowed to hear and see- even if it isn't affecting you personally at this juncture. Given examples such as the above, I fail to see the suprise in anything attempted to place even more charges, taxes, etc. on our society. It is the responsibility of each citizen to be aware of everything that affects our neighbors to prevent violations against our basic rights, especially "free speech." We can't become complacent with the goings on of government, because the representatives there work for each of us, by representing us. Every now and then we must remind ourselves that the men and women there are nothing more than ordinary "people" and they make many mistakes as each of us do. [This being well illustrated through my reaction stemming from being the over zealous person that I am.] Just the same, we have to maintain a level of awareness in order to maintain our freedoms. I can't apologize for my genuine concern, or being unaware of how to check these matters out, since we can't know these things until we are told. However, I am truly sorry if there was any needless concern caused by me, even inadvertently. Hopefully, each of us will check things out before "sharing." To be certain, I know that I will. ........gaelcee --------- > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected] > Subject: Re: Fw: Internet Charges -HOAX!!!!! > Date: Tuesday, January 12, 1999 1:52 PM > > IF YOU RECEIVED A POST ON INTERNET CHARGES AND SENT IT ON, YOU ARE > PARTICIPATING IN A > > hoax!!! > > Pls do not pass on any information that you have not checked PERSONALLY even > if it comes from your mother or your pastor. > > Here are two sites where you can check out hoaxes: > > Don't Spread that Hoax! > > http://ciac.llnl.gov/ciac?CIACHoaxes.html > > Put these sites into your favorites list and use them before you send > something that was made by someone who needs to get a life!!! > Nancy S
It would be very interesting to me how anyone could be charged a long distance call for using the internet. Postings like this only cause problems and, if would appear, one would do some research before posting and/or forwarding such as this. In the first place, you are going through a server which, in turn, accesses the internet for you. It is their telephonic connection, not yours.
RE Dixie McCrary's Book and the posibility of it being updated and re- published. Please post to the list I am very interested in a copy. Patsy
Just because we are "already" paying a cost, doesn't mean that we wouldn't be charged again. Looking for any descendants of Lena Ellis Hamm (or Ham), who was the daughter of Lytle and Pearl Golightly Ellis of Hereford, TX. She was born about 1909 and had one brother, Orville Lloyd Ellis, who lived north of Amarillo, TX, and one sister, Thelma Ellis Hamm (or Ham), whose husband was probably related to Lena's husband. I don't know what their husbands' names were, only their last name. According to their mother Pearl's funeral record from 1971, Lena was living in El Monte, CA at the time. Any information would be most appreciated. Thanks. Duston Brooks
Looking for any descendants of Orville Lloyd Ellis, son of Lytle and Pearl Golightly Ellis of Hereford, Texas. Orville lived in the Masterson Community north of Amarillo, TX in Moore County. In a place called Bivins Station, which may have been where he got his mail. I have been unable to get a response from anyone in Moore County who have anything to do with historical or genealogical societies there. I'm interested in learning where Orville's grave is and when he died, so that I may attempt to locate an obituary for him. He probably died in the 1960's or maybe the 1950's. He had two sisters: Lena and Thelma, whose husbands last names were both Hamm. Lena and Thelma lived in CA. Orville was born around 1913 I believe. Any information would be most appreciated. Thanks. LaDoris--Here is what the book says on pp. 141-2. BTW, only 100 copies of the book were printed. The Ellis Cousins association has a copy that members can borrow, and it is also possible to get a microfilm from the Family History Library (Mormon Church). "In 1773 (Deed Bk. E, p. 192), Henry Ellis (Sr.) sold to William Ellis, land on s. side of Tar River, adj. Ham, Forbes and others. Wit.: James Lanier, Wm. Baldwin, Lucy Ellis. Lucy Ellis not identified. This William is not a son of Henry Sr., may have been a nephew, son of an unidentified son of Benjamin II from Surry-Sussex and Southampton Cos., Va. Subsequent deeds show close association of this William with members of the Lanier family; probably, William was a brother of Michaell Ellis, a taxable in 1762 (b. 1746 or earlier) in home of William Lanier. Not known whether William and Michael were related to the Lanier family; it is known that a number of Lanier families lived in Surry-Sussex and had some associationwith the Ellis family there. "This William may be the William Ellis shown on p. 334, "Roster of N.C. Soldiers in the American Revolution," as one of five men of the Ellis name who served from the Newbern Dist., two others being Capt. Henry Ellis, and Shadrach Ellis (son of Henry). As shown under Item (ii) of par. 3 above, Shadrach Ellis served in Capt. John Hodge's Co., Vols., under Col. Benj. Seawell of N.C. Regt. of Militia. William Ellis of Pitt Co. was also in this regiment, as shown in Certificate from the War Dept. filed with an application for membership in the DAR in 1915; the application was approved and the applicant admitted to membership. (Nat. No. 103110). Those papers stated that William Ellis, b. in Virginia, 1755, died after 1812 in North Carolina; married (date not given) to Elizabeth Stanton, also b. 1755 in Virginia, died in North Carolina. The papers mention one child only, Delthia Ellis, who was married to Lemuel deBerry. Supporting documents not available to us. It may be mentioned that we have seen published information indicating that others claim descent from William Ellis, Revolutionary soldier from the Newbern Dist. (not a DAR case), and said to have died 1805 in Georgia. (See par. 4 of summary of William Ellis of Edgecombe Co., N.C., Son of Joseph and Faith Ellis. Documentary proof not available to us). --David David B.
