    2. Karen Winter & Sylvia Stevens
    3. I know that there are a number of people out there researching the elusive Dicey Murphree Ellis Wilson! She was born Dicey Murphree, married Jeremiah Ellis in South carolina, bore him four or five children and was widowed when he died in his thirties. She came around the Allegheny Mountains with a few of her children in tow and settled in McMinn/Rhea county Tennesse, Athens, to be exact. She married A fellow named Wilson and bore him several more children and then vanished! Anyone know where and when she was buried? Her descendants inclyde Ezekiel Jesse Ransom and Sarah ellis of Blount and Barry Counties. Thanx for any light you can shed. Sylvia

    3. In response to Bob and Joan's comments.. if it's up to a vote.. I vote that the genealogy information be shared, with the whole list.... One never knows when or where the next clue may come from.... I once made the sorry mistake of concentrating my research to a small narrow, specific geographical area... only to learn much later that I'd deleted a lot of distant family.... 1. [ELLIS-L] William W. Jaques and Sarah Ellis Jaques
    2. Karen Winter & Sylvia Stevens
    3. For those who are interested in the Ellises of Blount County and Barry County, I have sent Ransom A. Ellis Jr. the information I have on the Jaques branch of the family including a number of pictures of the family of Millard Nathaniel Jaques. Included in that lot is a picture of 100 Pearl Street, Monett Missouri (Barry Co.) where Sarah Ellis lived when she was married to William Jaques. In addition to that, I gave him a print of the only photo I have of Sarah (aunt Sis) Ellis Jaques and her husband with their children gathered around them. I also gave him numerous stories that my grandmother, the daughter of Millard N. Jaques wrote about the Jaques families. He will be incorporating this material and more into the next edition of his book, Ezekile Ellis, His Progenitors and Progeny. In addition to this, I put him in contact with the surviving child of the Jaques', my great aunt. I am exceedingly pleased to have been of some small help to the endeavor. The book is currently out of print and Ransom has no more copies, however I do think that the updated edition will be worth the wait. I have the volume and can do a few look-ups, so long as my eyes hold out. Print is very difficult for me to read now. On the plus side, I will soon be acquiring a talking computer to accomodate my diminishing sight. Technology marches on! :) Sylvia Stevens

    3. Linda, Elizabeth Ellis Baird is my husband's gggg-grandmother. Their daughter Elizabeth Baird b. 9 Feb 1760 is the 3rd great-grandmother. But info from the siblings might lead me in the right direction. Someone sent me the info on Rebecca and that led me to MD. I was searching in NJ before. I might even find some cousins that might have more info. I would like anything you find. How much did you find? 1. Re: [ELLIS-L] Ellis land grants: Can you help identify them please
    2. Bob Ellis
    3. Linda and list: I found some more information in the Memorandum that relates to your #3 below. Joshua Shelton Ellis, was born at Red Hill (which is in Amherst County and not Albermarle County as another reference states) on 12/20/1787. He was the son of Josia Ellis, who was the eldest son of Charles Ellis, who was the youngest son of John and Susannah of Tuckaho. He sounds like your man! I looked at my handy dandy Rand McNally and Pedlar Mills is just north of Lynchburg, VA in Amherst County but there is no indication of a Pedlar River. I suspect Red Hill is pretty close by. Has anyone been to Red Hill on the list? Powhatan Ellis, the lawyer was born there. Hope this helps Bob At 02:10 PM 4/6/99 -0700, you wrote: >I just found some Ellis's in the Land Office Patents and Grants site and was hoping maybe someone can help identify who they might be, or what family they belonged to: > >1st: >Ellis, Samuel; Ellis, Sary; & Ellis, James >1 September 1783 >Norfolk County >150a. 2. Bob Ellis
    3. Linda & Others: In "A Memorandum of The Ellis Family" by Thomas H. Ellis (1849) it is noted that a Charles Ellis moved from Henrico County (near Richmond) in 1754 up to Albemarle County (thats up in the foothills of Eastern Virginia) to a place on the Pedlar River that became known as Red Hill. It doesn't seem to fit too well with your information but may give you some hints. Good luck Bob Ellis At 02:10 PM 4/6/99 -0700, you wrote: >I just found some Ellis's in the Land Office Patents and Grants site and was hoping maybe someone can help identify who they might be, or what family they belonged to: > >1st: >Ellis, Samuel; Ellis, Sary; & Ellis, James >1 September 1783 >Norfolk County >150a. 3. Dear Joan and the Ellis List: As Joan did, how about if we make it a regular practice to cc our replies to the list when we reply to the individual who made the request or reply? Yes, the sender and receiver will receive duplicates but the rest of us will be able to share the pearls of wisdom (and hard earned information) without too much trouble. It will be a little bit like one of the usenets but we won't have all of the flamers. Bob At 07:34 PM 4/5/99 -0500, you wrote: >Thank you for bringing this up.
