I am new to this list and am hoping to get some information on my husband's grandfather Frank (Francis?) Theodore Ellis, born 8/22/1866 in Plymouth, England, m. Cynthia Etta Newcomb 8/73 in Massachusetts. I believe Franks's father was a Thomas and mother Ellen Pederick. Any information will be most appreciated. Pat Ellis
Sylvia, Does this "lawyer" know about the Ellis Loop? Maybe I speak for more than myself when I say I am more than just a lil interested in this book!!! I would love to add my family info..if it so lends itself, and to purchase it!! Do you think he would be willing to add more? I am related to the Va. Ellises who moved to SC and to ALand then to MS. My GGGGrandfather stayed in Tuscaloosa Al til his Death( I am pretty sure) and, my family moved from Al in 1880 to Arkansas where they have been ever since. Would you mind, when you correspond with him again, finding out if he is interested in adding more information..continuing the lines out from VA.. I would love to purchase a book like that and perhaps pepople here wouldn't mind adding their information also. Thanks! Kat
OK I have a question..... Are the Md Lines and the Va lines related?
Yes, please share all info. Looking for ancestors of John W. Ellis, lived and died in Bell County, KY - 1870-1948. Married Mary Mason, daughter of Anderson Mason. Children include my grandfather Walter and Clayborn, Jesse, Leonard, Lindsey, Sara Myrtle, Cora, Maggie, Bessie, John Robison, Thomas, Hazel (male). John's mother's name was Emaline. I didn't want to appear to press him, but I can always mention that I need to know because then I can either hurry my search or take it easier. he is truly a delightful fellow and VERY intelligent. For a lawyer. :) Now before any attorneys out there get fluffed, I cut my teeth on lawbooks, learned to read in my grandmother's boss' office. Elsie Stivers was a legal secretary for forty plus years and I got my first bloody nose for calling a neighbor kid 'non compos mentis' when we were both five years old. Hence the smile after that last comment. I actually *like* lawyers. But I can't resist taking a nip now and again. >I have about 400 pages of his book which I copied at the Cassville MO >library. I'll try to get a ppublishing date. I still have info to send to >him. His grgrandfather and mine (Jeremiah Ellis) were brothers. He sounded very enthusiastic in the last email to me. I think he's revving up again! :) Send the stuff off to him fairly soon. I'll encourage him, again, to join this list. I sent him the addy, but as yet he hasn't nibbled. I sat down and counted back from myself to Edward Ellis in VA. Whoof! TWELVE generations! I feel giddy thinking about it. Anyone else here descended from Sarah (Sis) Ellis Jaques or Benjamin Abbott Ellis in Barry county MO? Sarah (ellis) Jaques taught Elsie to read by pasting the 'funny papers' from the St. Louis Post Dispatch on her pantry walls and then she and Elsie would crawl around the pantry with a candle reading the comics until they had them memorized. Then, as if by magic, a new set would show up (courtesy of Oscar Jaques, who religiously bought and brought home the paper). The house Sarah lived in was near the "riptracks" or sidings where cars were repaired or stripped down. The "knights of the road" (hoboes, that is) would quietly creep into the house and carefully clean out the larder of any leftovers. They never stole anything or harmed Sarah or Elsie, but they all knew that Sarah was a "soft touch" for a meal. When grandmother and granddaughter got up in the morning, the plates would be neatly laid on the sideboard. Now and then a nickel would be left, but more often not. Sarah's house was very probably marked in some way that hoboes knew she was harmless and generous. Those days are gone. She took in washing to make a meager living but always had enough money to have a peppermint on the pantry shelf for Elsie and now and then a pint of ice cream. I'll do the lookups some have asked for tomorrow. Be Seeing You Sylvia
I too am a descendant of Jeremiah and Dicey (not quite proven). I am descendant of daughter Elizabeth who never seems to be mentioned as his daughter. She was born in 1802 in SC. I have been to the Pendleton area in courthouses trying to find death record of Jeremiah but no such luck. Elizabeth apparently went with Mother Dicey for she was married in Rhea County TN. Haven't followed through on Dicey burial. Going out of town for several days but think I will look in the Clack Cemetery list on Rhea County Website when I return. Elizabeth was buried there in 1875 and it's a start. Meanwhile if anyone knows date of death of Jeremiah--would really appreciate it. happy to share what I have on Elizabeth. Gail Brevard,NC
Sylvia, does it have an index? If so, does it also include a WILLIAM ELLIS born about 1755, married Elizabeth STANTON/STAUNTON? Their daughter DELPHIA ELLIS married LEMUEL DeBERRY. This is ALL the information I have on my William ELLIS; he is mentioned very briefly [pp141-142] in Dixie McCrary's book on the Ellis Line from Surry-Sussex Va. He is believed to be the William Ellis shown on p. 334, "Roster of N.C. Soldiers in the American Revolution" from Newbern Dist., NC. DAR papers indicate he died in NC after 1812; however, I have no documentation evidencing whether any of the above is factual. OOPS, and correction... The DeBerry bible does mention that William and Elizabeth Stanton DeBERRY is in error. This should read William and Elizabeth Stanton ELLIS are parents of Delphia Ellis who married Lemuel DeBerry....but nothing more. Sorry about the typo. LaDoris

Hello, I've been watching the list for months hoping to get a glimpse of the one Ellis I seek. I know almost nothing at all about her. Here is what I do know, her name was Fannie Ellis born about 1840-1850 probably in Miss. She was married to James S. Conn in Tishomingo, MS in 1866. If anyone has a Fannie in thier Ellis tree that was in MS at that time I would be estatic to hear from you. Patricia [email protected] wrote: > Yes, let us all please share out ELLIS information. Sylvia, Et. Al. I think there is a good chance that Dicey might be related to the Ellis group Dixie McCrary's book The Ellis Line From Surry-Essex VA. There is a Jeremiah Ellis there whose daughter married a Murfrey. I do not have any further information on Murfrey or Murphree from the book. I do not have information from the book on branches not of my line. Butthe similarity of names could lead to a connection if you can get ahold of the book. Not only are the names similar but the Ransom Ellis marrying Sarah Daniels about 1823 is from this same line. Could this be your Ransom in your second email? Has the person who was working on the line of Edward Ellis and where he came from found anything interesting yet? I lost the email I had on it. I had tried this myself and thought I had found the link but it turned out upon further investigation to have been wrong. Is the David Ellis that just listed with John Smith in anyway connected to Edward Ellis? Just wondering. I don't have that connection. Joan

Hi Ellis Researchers...my sister-in-law, Charley, <[email protected]> and I have been working on the Emily Ann Norred/William Edward Ellis line intensively the last year. For this line of the Ellis family, we are sure back to South Carolina in 1799. (There is a strong possibility that the Reverand John Ellis and wife Catherine Ann McCranie are the parents of William and possibly from Virginia) William and Emily Ann settled in the Conecuh County, AL area in the early 1820s and produced 13 children, 9 of whom lived to be grown and had children of their own. We have lost two of those 9 children...George Thomas b. 2 Feb 1834 and d. 6 Feb 1876 and brother, Thomas b. 14 Nov 1835 and d. 17 Jan 1931...yes, there were two children with the name Thomas in the family...since these two did not appear on the censuses, tax lists, church records, etc., etc., either in Concecuh Co or surrounding counties, we are now assuming they went elsewhere to make their fortune...family records give their birth and death dates, but nothing else...we have checked all the possibilities we can think of....if you can shed any light on either of these two fellows, we certainly would appreciate it....if we can help you with your Ellis line in any way, please let us know. Sincerely, liz ellis - Baytown, TX
