This is really a great idea, wish all lists would do this. Roland, you are a professional and I would like to ask you a sincere question. My g-grandmother was Martha Elliott (unknown middle name). She was born October 11, 1842. I don't know much about her, but my dad is 95, still living, in Burlington Kansas, and has always stated she was "Pennslyvania Dutch". Her obituary states she was born in KY, but came to Missouri when 17, where she met and married my g-grandfather William Penn Makepeace. (January 20, 1860) Everyone but my dad has been gone many years, but I do remember my grandfather also telling me his mom was "Pennslyvania Dutch". They were always proud of this. I just visited my father this past month,(l live 1000 miles from him) and recorded him and he once again insisted that Martha Elliott was "Pennslyvania Dutch" My father is very alert and in May, the small Burlington paper had a large article on my father when he turned 95. I have written many places for information with no success, (genealogical and historical societies, as well as libraries, usually no reply) I cannot find anything on the census. Roland, is there any way that I can find out who her father / mother etc. was by writing certain places, etc.? I would appreciate any advice you could possibly give me on how to go about obtaining who she derived from. Thank you and to all on the list, I really enjoy reading about the "Elliott" family.
