Born June 3, 1925, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late James and Ruth Daggs Elliott, he came to Newell at age 16. After 31 years service in combustion engineering at Globe Brick, he retired in 1985. A Protestant by faith, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater as an electrician from 1943 to 1946. A life member of the American Legion Post 374, a life member of VFW Post 6450 and a charter member of the former Newell American Legion, he was a graduate of Wells High School in Newell, Class of 1943. He is survived at home by his wife, Mildred E. Congo Elliott, whom he married May 11, 1951. Also surviving are a daughter, Joanna Mae Gamble and her husband, George "Tom," of Calcutta; a granddaughter, Brittany Dawn Gamble of Calcutta; and a sister, Delores Mick of Laurel, Miss. The Rev. Gary LeMasters is to conduct services at 11 a.m. Friday at the Dawson Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial is to be in Columbiana County Memorial Park, where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors.
