John's will was probated in mid 1862 so I assume he died late 1861 or early 1862. He settled in Tippecanoe County, Indiana in the Washington Township area in 1831. John was married to Rebecca Steele, March 27, 1827, in Augusta County Virginia, and they were both of Irish descent. She was born in 1801, in Virginia, and died 5-21-1844. Rebecca is buried in the Tea Cemetery in Washington Township, Indiana and Tea is also known as the Kite or Runkle Cemetery. John had seven children with Rebecca; James S. born 1828 William B. born 1830 died in infancy age 1 Samuel P. born 1832 Margaret Jane born 1835 died in infancy Estaline born 1837 Martha Ann born 1839 John married his second wife in 1848 after Rebecca died. John's second wife, Mariah Moore, was born 1808 and died in 1862. John and Maria had 4 more children; Emily born 1848 (also have seen it written Emma) James T 1849 (also have seen this written JT, and assumed to of died young due to not being listed in John's will in 1862) Phebe J. born 1850 Hannah Elizabeth born 1852 Mariah was also buried in the Tea Cemetery. Emily, Phebe J. and Hannah after their parents death were taken care of by Mary Moore, Mariah's daughter. John's will indicated that he owned land in Washington and Perry, Township. Samuel P. Elliott was born in 1832, died in 1897, and is buried in Independence Cemetery in Jasper County Indiana. He first married Almira Gibbs in 1859, in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. She was born in 1840 and died in 1867 and is buried in Independence Cemetery in Jasper County, Indiana. Samuel and Almira settled in Gillam Township in Jasper County, Indiana and had the following children; John W. born 1559 Estaline born 1862 Sylva Alice born 1864 Phebe Jennie born 1866 Samuel married his second wife in 1868 and her name was Sarah (Cooper) Swisher. Sarah was born in 1832 and died in 1899. Sarah is buried in Independence Cemetery in Jasper County, Indiana. Sam and Sarah had the following children; Martha born 1869 Emery born 1872 James Thomas born 1875 Asa born 1878 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
