Author: familytree99_1 Surnames: Elliott, Berry, Randall, Wilburn (bourne), Bailey Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.elliott/6681/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Searching for information on James Elliott b. about 1750 in Saintfield, County Down, Northern Ireland. He had a Freeholder claim in 1769. Cant read the Barony. He came to America and landed in Maryland. It must have been on the eve or during the American Revolution. He may have been in it. He and his wife, Peggy, (probably Margaret) came right after they were married. (Family lore) There was a Rev. Martin who transported 5 shiploads of Scots-Irish from Belfast in 1772 to Chester County, S.C. Saintfield is 10 miles south of Belfast. These are supposedly somewhere online but I cannot find them. The next entry lists them in Fairfield County, S.C. about 1790. Fairfield is just south of Chester County. They had their 4 sons there: John b. 1791, Thomas b. 1793, Robert Henry b. 1797, and James Jr. All but Robert were in the War of 1812 in McWillie's Regiment. They recieved Bounties in Arkansas and moved there after 1820. James Sr., Peggy, and James Jr. died in S.C. about 1820. I am sure they orginally came from Scotland most likely Roxburgshire. Since County Antrim and County Down were the first settlements in Northern Ireland there may be another 100 years back to Scotland to find the rest of the family. Does anyone have any information on James Elliott Sr? I have looked in the Public Records of Northern Ireland (PRONI) and all I could find is the Freeholder claim. Some have said that the other records would be in the church or parish holdings before 1800's. These are not online. Any information would be appreciated Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
