Had not thought of that particular "angle", since his mother, Bertha, became a widow in 1890, when Samuel was but 6 years of age, that is surely a possibility. Given her family connections, however, it seems rather unlikely she's have to resort to placing Samuel in such a place. Definitely worth checking into, though. Again, many thanks.
