NC in about 1830 and was the daughter of a David Elliott; see http://www.jenforum.com/woodall/messages/668.html According to other information posted on rootsweb, in the 1850 census there is a record for James Woodall (aged 33), wife Mary (21) and three children Mary, Nancy and Samuel. They are shown as unable to read or write. Information from the jenforum message above also says that the family later moved to Patrick Co. VA and they are shown there in the 1860 census with a few more children (and apparently also in the 1870 and 1880 census). So it's not clear whether they are connected to our William Joseph or not.
