I, too, am researching Stephen Elliott of Coffee County, Tennessee (not the one who married a Dent) (1790-1872). Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. I descend from Stephen Elliott, born 1790 in North Carolina, died 30 Aug 1872 in Coffee County, Tenn. There were apparently two Stephen Elliotts living in Coffee County, Tenn. One married Mary Elizabeth Dant, and many list that Stephen as being the father and Ms. Dant as the mother of Henry, James Monroe, Maltida, and other Elliotts. This has been rejected by those in my family, who have done deep research. I descend from James Monroe Elliott (1816-1897), who was the son of Stephen Elliott, but not of Mary Elizabeth Dant. We have not been able to identify with certainty the name of Stephen's wife, although it was probably Elizabeth. Or line migrated to Arkansas, and from there to Texas.
