I am very pleased to see the responses to my posting regarding the Elliotts (nice to her from you again, Vera). My PA family fits somewhere in between some of yours. I don't know when my family came over, Phillip, but it is tempting to think we might have a connection. My GGGgrandfather, Thomas ELLIOTT was born 6 Jan 1807 in York County, PA. His parents were Andrew and Elizabeth (maiden name unknown). Elizabeth's obituary was in Indiana 26 April 1844 age 64 years, 9 months, and 27 days, which translates to 30 Jun 1779, location unknown. Andrew isn't mentioned by name in the obit, but we confirm the connection in the Doty Family History, where two of Andrew and Elizabeth's daughters marry two DOTY boys. Elizabeth emigrated from Pennsylvania to Ohio, "in the years 1823, a widow, with eight children, and settled in Stark County, where she remained until fall of 1843, when she removed with her son, Andrew Elliott, to Lagrage County, Indiana." She died at the home of another son, Thomas, my GGGgrandfather. I have no further confirmed information about Andrew, Sr., except that the family is probably in Cumberland County, North Middleton, based on the number and ages of children in the 1820 census. Apparently, Andrew died between 1820 and 1823, but I can find no record, yet. I have identified seven of the eight children: Nolan ELLIOTT, b. abt 1800 William B. ELLIOTT, b. abt 1804 Thomas ELLIOTT, b. 6 Jan 1807, d. 24 Apr 1879 Andrew H. ELLIOTT, b. 1808, d. before 1882 Nancy ELLIOTT, b. Oct 1812, married Lot DOTY Frances "Fanny" ELLIOTT, b. Abt 1815, married Zebulon DOTY Charles ELLIOTT, b. 8 Apr 1817, d. 6 Jan 1894 I have no information about Nolan. Charles stayed in Ohio and died at a son's home in Kansas. William B., Thomas, Charles, Nancy and Frances (all married in Ohio) moved to Northern Indiana and died there. If anyone can shed some light on Andrew, Sr., I would be most appreciative. 3. Do you have any information about the Elliotts of North Carolina and Georgia? I descend from Stephen Elliott, born 1790 in North Carolina, died 30 Aug 1872 in Coffee County, Tenn. There were apparently two Stephen Elliotts living in Coffee County, Tenn. One married Mary Elizabeth Dant, and many list that Stephen as being the father and Ms. Dant as the mother of Henry, James Monroe, Maltida, and other Elliotts. This has been rejected by those who have done deep research. I descend from James Monroe Elliott (1816-1897), who was the son of Stephen Elliott, but not of Mary Elizabeth Dant. We have not been able to identify with certainty the name of Stephen's wife, although it was probably Elizabeth. Or line migrated to Arkansas, and from there to Texas. Can you help us find his parents in North Carolina, and any others before that. If I have sent this to the wrong address, please forward it to anyone you think might help. 3. Hi Chuck, nice to be posting! :)  This is very interesting..would York County have been part of Washington County in 1807?  My maps are in the basement, sorry.  My Thomas had a brother named Andrew that supposedly lived too far away to remain in contact (so quoted after they moved to Ohio)  Could have left them in PA.  Also, there is a possiblity that my family is linked to the Francis Blaine Elliott's ..all your names (except Nolan, Frances & Nancy) are same as mine. (big deal eh since they ALL named their children those names!) My Thomas was supposedly the middle brother with William and Andrew on either side...so Andrew Sr's death 5 ish years or so after my Thomas's would seem possible as the younger brother. You know I"m just free thinking. I'll see what I can find in my info too.  Wishing I could find them in PA somewhere prior to 1800. vera ----- Original Message ---- From: "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: ELLIOTT-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, September 18, 2009 3:09:17 PM Subject: Re: [Elliott] Is Elliott English or Scottish?
