The Elliotts were among the original clans of Scotland. They were commissioned by Robert the Bruce to station themselves on the border between Scotland and England to preserve independence for Scotland. When James of England reunited the kingdom, the Elliott Clan had to move (for their political health) and they migrated to northern Ireland. It has been stated by scots that of all the spellings of the family name, ELLIOTT is peculiar to those who went to Ireland. I notice that now, there are Elliotts back in England and Scotland so some must have returned at a time later than their exodus to Ireland. I hope this helps...............Will Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
