I propose he was the son of Abraham Elliott Jr (c1756 York Co PA - 1843 Randolph Co NC). Questions, comments, and friendly arguments solicited. Zimri Elliott gave his age as 50-60 (born 1780-1790) in 1830 in Orange Co IN. In 1820 there he over 21 in the enumeration of males, and in the census he was 26-44 (born 1776-1794). He was named in a bastardy bond in 1810 and married in 1811, in Randolph Co NC, indicating he was at the very youngest in his late teens. The combination of these gives a probable birthdate between 1790-1794, probably early in that span. Zimri's wife was Martha Moser, daughter of Tobias Moser. Zimri interacted with other Randolph Co Elliotts in 1814, when he and Jeremiah Elliott signed a bastardy bond for William Elliott. Jeremiah was the son of Abraham Elliott Jr. Abraham had five children, but the application for a Revolutionary War pension from his service, filed in 1854, only listed those still alive at Abraham's death in 1843, namely Joseph, Jeremiah, Mary Allred, Elizabeth Gray. Zimri, who had moved to Indiana, had died in the mid 1830's. Abraham Elliott Jr was born about 1758 in PA (Abraham Sr and his brother Jacob Sr have records there in Chester and York counties), was single in Randolph Co NC in 1779, and in 1790 was married with 2 sons under 16. In 1800 the only Abraham Elliott in the Randolph Co census had 1 son under 10, 1 daughter 10-15, 2 sons 16-25 (Joseph & Jeremiah) and he and his wife were 26-44. In 1790 Abraham Jr had 1m < 16, 2 m > 16, 2f, and 5 slaves. The younger boy would be Jeremiah, the older males Abraham and Joseph, and the women Ruth and probably Mary. The ages of the boys can be narrowed down further: If they were 16-25 in 1800 they were born 1775-1784, but since Abraham was single in the 1779 tax list, and they were born 1780-1790 per the 1790 census, that gives us a range of only 1780 to 1784 for their births. In 1800, Abraham and Ruth were 26-44, Joseph and Jeremiah were 16-25, a girl was 10-15, and there was a boy under 10, Zimri. Probably the daughter from 1790 had and this second one, Elizabeth, was born right after the 1790 census. So, Joseph son of Abraham Jr was born 1780-1784, and he married in 1803, when he would be 19 to 21, a reasonable age. Jeremiah had both a bastardy nomination and got married in 1806. Abraham Jr (Zimri's father) had an uncle Jacob Sr, whose sons included another Abraham and a William. These men and their wives sold land in 1799 to Zacharias Lindley. Zimri's sister-in-law Margaret Moser married Zachariah in 1806, and Zachariah Lindley and Zimri Elliott both attended an estate sale in Orange Co IN in 1825. This is rather tangential for showing Zimri's parentage, but it does indicate the Lindleys and the Pennsylvania line Elliotts were acquainted. These Elliotts are often described as living adjacent to various Beesons, and another of Zimri's sisters-in-law Mary Moser married first Absalom Beeson, and in 1804 John Rhodes. The bondsman for Zimri's marriage was Joseph Rhodes. Many of these families were affiliated with the Quaker faith, as were the Elliotts (although Abraham Elliott Jr does not seem to appear in Quaker records after 1765 when his parents transferred to Cane Creek MM NC, from Warrington MM PA, and Abraham's military service in the Revolutionary War probably severed his connection with the Quakers). Tobias Moser, Zimri's father-in-law, was the grandson of a famous German Reformed pastor in PA, but Tobias became associated with the Sandy Creek Church in Randolph Co, serving as a delegate from the mother church to the Sandy Creek Baptist Association in 1805. The Sandy Creek Baptists had long association with the Quakers, and both churches were deeply involved in the Regulator Movement of 1768-1771. (Ru! th Field Elliott, Abraham Jr's wife and mother of Jeremiah and Zimri, came from another family deeply involved in the Regulators. Her father was Jeremiah Field, son of William Field.) This may explain why many of Tobias Moser's children had spouses who came from Quaker families. The emigration of Quakers from Randolph County, NC to Orange County, IN, which Zimri Elliott and the Moser family joined, began in about 1815 and was organized by the noted North Carolina Quaker Jonathan Lindley (1756-1828), the brother of Zacharias Lindley.
