I have received excellent help from the Elkhart Public Library. Unfortunately, it looks like you and I are from different stems of the Elliott tree. My GGGgrandfather, Thomas Elliott, was born in York County, PA, in 1807. His father, Andrew Elliott, died between 1820 and 1823, probably in Cumberland County, PA. His widow, Elizabeth, and 8 children moved to Stark County, OH, in 1823. The families grew there and in 1843 Elizabeth moved to LaGrange County, IN, with sons Thomas, Andrew H., and William B. Elliott. Elizabeth died there a few months after arrival. Most of the sons' offspring stayed at least another generation in LaGrange and Elkhart County. My big hunt is in Pennsylvania, where Andrew Elliott is quite elusive. He appears on the 1820 Cumberland census with a family distributed in age to confirm his identity. Even though his sons appear on later Indiana census' as born in York County, PA, I have not found the family there. Some other reseachers think Andrew's father's name might be Robert and that he might have come from Ireland in the late 1760's or early 1770's. We have not confirmed this. If you want to continue this string off line, my e-mail address is chukndee@ix.netcom.com.
