Garfield (1881). Around 1900 the family had an overall landscape plan done by a T. Wilkinson Elliot from Pittsburgh, PA; however I have only found references to J. Wilkinson Elliot, Pittsburgh, PA. I am starting to think they may be one in the same. Lucretia Garfield, the president's widow, remained on the property in Mentor, OH. She also had a winter home in Pasadena, CA. On both sides of the existing property lived two of Garfield's sons, Harry and James R., the latter becoming the Secretary of the Interior for T. Roosevelt. From what I have been researching, the family had a "T." Wilkinson Elliot from Pitt, PA plant a variety of trees on the property.
