Dear list, I am looking for the parents of my 3rd great-grandmother, Melvina Elliott. Census records indicate she was born in North Carolina. She died 24 Mar 1876 in McMinnville, TN and is buried there at Smyrna Cemetery beside her husband, William "Thomas" Turner b. 14 May 1804 in Edgefield, SC. 1820 Census records for Edgefield Co., SC show that her father is probably William Elliott. However, a Turner cousin, Lowell D. Turner, thought her father might be Joseph F. Elliott, born in Lincoln Co., NC west of the South Fork of the Catawba (?) River. My 3rd Great-grandparents: 1. William "Thomas" Turner b. 14 May 1804 in Edgefield, South Carolina, d. 3 Sep 1875 in McMinnville, Tennessee. Buried in Smyrna Cemetery in McMinnville, Tennessee. + Melvina Elliott born ca 1804 in South Carolina. Died 24 Mar 1876 in McMinnville, Tennessee. Buried in Smyrna Cemetery with many other Turners, Elliott's, and Boyd's. [If you live near here, I've heard it would be a rewarding visit.] They had 8 children: 1. Henry Thomas Turner (my 2nd great-grandfather) + Mary Jane Boyd; 2. Martha Caroline Turner + Jefferson Aquilia Savage; 3. Andrew J. Turner + Catherine Ann Akeman; 4. John Jefferson Turner + Margaret Overturf. (Had 9 children. William D. (Dent?) Avis T.; Henry T.; Andrew T.; Claud T.; Mary T.; Martha T.; James T.; Bell T; and Parrot T.); 5. William Thomas Turner, Jr. + Elizabeth Herndon, +Rachel Smith, and +Rachel Hennessee; 6. Ozias DENT Turner (Dent is a connected name some cousins have his middle name as Denton) + Martha McCorkle; 7. Margaret Turner + Billy Bruce Christian; 8. Ellenza Turner + Joseph Barnes. Barnes is another name often connected with the Turners. Other names connected with the Turners are Terry's, Boyd's, Gillentine's, and Hennessee's. My cousin said a good book to read is "The Barnes Papers." Mr. Barnes was a postman in Van Buren County, Tennessee. The Tennessee State Library publishes the book. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! Sue
