    3. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Elliott, Peck, McNeill, Taylor, Talbot, Wright, Langsdale Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JhU.2ACEB/3184.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I want to apologize in advance for what may be a long message, but I think it will contain very valuable information. Marguerite Harper's recent response gave me information which has opened up alot of info on William J. Elliott and his descendants. Ms. Harper indicated that William had a son named Byron K. My copy of the 1850 census had William and his family living in Cincinnati but I could not make out the name of the oldest child. It is clear now that it is Byron K. I was fortunate to inherit from my grandmother a 5 volume book collection entitled "Indiana and the Indianians" by Jacob Piatt Dunn and published in 1919. It is almost 2300 pages long and contains many bios of 19th century residents of Indiana. I had looked for William J. Elliott previously in the index, but no listing was found. I decided to search for Byron K. in Ancestry. com's databases and found that he had been on the Indiana Supreme Court. When I looked in the above mentioned book I found a fairly extensive bio on Byron as well as a portrait. In Judge Byron's bio, it also indicates that William J. had removed to Indianapolis in Dec. of 1850. His father was stated as James Elliott (which is in keeping with Ms. Harper's information). I also found a write-up for one of Byron's siblings, Joseph T. (Taylor - this again is in keeping with Ms. Harper's info) Elliott. There is also a picture of him. He was a survivor of Andersonville prison in Georgia and was also a surviv! or of the Sultana steamship explosion (the aftermath and rescue is recounted in detail). His bio indicates that James Elliott (William J.'s father) moved from Pennsylvania to Ohio in 1799 and was one of the first settlers of Butler County, where he spent the rest of his life. My preliminary research (this is not in the book) shows that James' father (William J.'s grandfather) appears also to have been a James and to have served in the Revolutionary War. As if all of this was not enough, I found even more info. William's second marriage produced Julia, who is my great grandmother. She married Edwin Hatfield Peck of New York City. I am not sure what prompted me to do this (I had never thought to do this before), but I decided to look in the book's index to see if there were any Peck's there. Sure enough, "Mrs. Edwin H. Peck" is listed. Not only is there a bio on her, but there is also a detailed description of Edwin, my great grandfather. There is even mention of my grandmother, Vivian Marguerite Peck, and her husband, Walter H. McNeill. Some other facts: 1. William J. (according to the book) was born on August 27, 1810 in Butler County, Ohio. He served two terms as Sheriff. His first wife, Mary Taylor, was a native of Preble County, Ohio and died in Butler County, Ohio in 1849. William J. was elected recorder of Marion County (I believe this is where Indianapolis is located) in 1863. He was a personal friend of the Governor. He died in Indianapolis in 1890. 2. Byron K. was born September 4, 1835 and died at Indianapolis on April 19, 1913. I have discovered that the Indiana Historical Society has a copy of Judge Byrons's Memorial Service Book. They have told me today that I should be able to get a copy. Byron married Harriet A. Talbot of Indianapolis on September 5,1855. There were two children of the marriage, his son and law partner, William F. Elliott, of Indianapolis , and Mrs. Robert C. Wright of Columbia, South Carolina. 3. Joseph T. Elliott was born on January 24, 1837 and died on August 4, 1916. On May 15, 1867, he married Annetta Langsdale. She was born in Indianapolis on October 9, 1846. They had four children, George B., Joseph T. Jr., Charles Edgar and Florence. Florence died at the age of three and George B. and Charles Edgar became associated with their father's business, Joseph T. Elliott and Sons. I have included all of this information in the hopes that the two of you (Ms. Harper and Mr. Adkins) can make a definite connection. If Ms. Harper can connect with William J., then I thnk we are definitely related (3rd cousins?). I am also hoping that others reading this can connect. I would be happy to fax all the info (about 9 pages) that I have.
