His father was a police constable, who died when he was an infant, and his mother subsequently returned to the London area. She later remarried a police inspector at Scotland Yard, named Johns(t)on(e). Willaim married Martha Ann Fage and had 5 children. Florence (b 1893-died 1914 diabetes) Beatrice (b. 1898- died 1914 peritonitis) Leonard (b. 1895? - died 1975 in Salisbury UK) William b. 1899-died 1935 TB) Ernest Edward (my grandfather) (b. West Ham , Forestgate, 1901-died 1980, Hythe, Kent, UK) William Edward died in Forestgate, West Ham, 1951. His wife, Martha Ann died in Langthorne Hospital in Leytonstone, London in 1955.
