Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.elliott/3285.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, Dawson Elliott and Mary Cole were my husband's Great Grandparents. His Grandmother was Hattie Louise b mar 1891 in Ky. She married Roy Barney Sloan. Their children included my mother-in-law Esther Louise Sloan who married Owen Timmons Longberry. There son Owen Joseph Longberry was my husband. Hattie told me her father Dawson Burgess Elliott was the son of Thomas Elliott and Martha Jane Hawkins. Dawson was born 13 Sep 1850, in Glasgow, Barren, Kentucky. He died 24 Jun 1947, in Connersville, IN and is buried in Dale Cemetarty. She also claimed a brother John William b 31 Mar 1888 in addition to the ones you listed. At one time the family lived in Richmond , Indiana. I have further information if you are interested. Hattie lived with my husband's parents for a good part of their lives and I knew her for the final six year of her life. She had very little to say about her father, Dawson, who for some reason was also called "Black Jack" beyond the bare facts. Can you shed any light on this? Chuck, I wonder if we could take a poll of everyone here and see how prevelant the name Andrew is in their family lines...I think that it was uncommon and that since you and I both have Andrews that might be a good thing..:) What does everyone think about that? vera Hi Mike, Thanks for the input. It would be exciting to find out that George, William or John could be connected to my Andrew, who was probably born between 1774 and 1784 (based on the 1820 census age range). I just did a run through HeritageQuest Online "Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application Files". I didn't find any reference to Andrew. He would be too young to serve, but some offspring are named in these application files. I did find Georges, Williams and Johns under both the ELLIOTT and ELLIOT spellings. The 1820 census for PA has 5 Georges, 20 Johns, and 12 Williams, again using the two spellings. However, none of them is in York County. They must have all moved on or died by 1820. The 1810 census has one John ELLIOTT in York County, while the 1800 census has one John ELLIOT. Ironically, I can't find my Andrew ELLIOTT in either the 1800 or 1810 censuses with family, although we know several of his children were born in York County between 1800 and 1810. There is a single Andrew ELLIOTT in Erie County in 1800. This Andrew is a slippery fellow. I did send in my DNA upgrade request for 67 markers, so we'll see what new names that produces. 3. you got it Wayne...I had hoped to find Andrew's maybe early tho in 1700/1800's tho when naming meant familial linkage possibly..and I hope to prove my theory that Andrew was not a very prevalent name in Elliott line thus those that used the name early might possibly be related through similar relatives..did that make more sense? sorry it was late and I am often not clear...:) vera ----- Original Message ---- From: wayne spence <wj.spence@sbcglobal.net> To: elliott@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, September 24, 2009 6:33:47 PM Subject: Re: [Elliott] Is Elliott English or Scottish? Sorry - it must have been my 3-day headache that made me put down Alexander instead of Andrew.  I do have one Andrew named Andrew Alexander Elliott (1890), son of James Elliott & Janet Jameson of Cullion, as below.

    3. I've not followed the entire string so I am uncertain what we're looking for, but I do have an Andrew LaBaume Elliott (1859-1934) both in TX. He was the son of Doctor LaBaume Elliott and Frances Ann Burnett. He was married to Lucy Ethel Barnes in 1889.
