The rest of the story: since we had exact matches with two Northern Irishmen and our family lived in Scotch-Irish communities in the colonies, we began looking into the migration of our family to the Ulster Plantation as I mentioned before. We found a Daniel Elliott there. These Scotsmen living in Ulster kept a strong allegiance to Scotland and about 1640, many moved back to Scotland. Scotland had two wars with Cromwell, 1650 and 1651. Cromwell took thousands of Scots prisoners and some he shipped to the colonies as Scotch-Irish prisoners 1651. Two large groups came over and no one kept a record of the prisoners. They worked about 6-8 years as indentured servants then were allowed to marry here but not go back to Scotland. We have done extensive research into the Eliot, Elliot, Elliott, Elet that came over, their descendents, etc. and can not find a record of our Daniel's arrival or where abouts in the colonies. Savage wrote that Daniel and son Daniel came from Marlborough/Sudbury area. We do feel he was in this area 1675 when King Philip burned Marlborough and western area of Sudbury and that his family died there leaving only both father and son. If anyone knows anything more or different, please let us know. Janet had another child between 1960 and 1963 her name is Mary, and was given away to a Margarette, again could be Mr Elliot'sChild, we have no information on Mary or a location. Linda, I have had my DNA tested, with the results posted FamilyTreeDNA.com. Can you give me the names of some of the matches you have to Daniel Elliott? I have only traced my line to Andrew Elliott in PA circa 1780 to 1823. You can reply directly to chukndee@ix.netcom.com if you wish. Cheers, Chuck Elliott -----Original Message----- From: elliott-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:elliott-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of richard2196@earthlink.net Sent: Friday, January 22, 2010 12:12 PM To: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com, Subject: Re: [Elliott] Daniel Elliot of Salem Mass Melanie is unable to answer at this time and asked that I respond. We originally found a Daniel Elliot of Ide, Devon, UK in the IGI section of Familysearch.org but after researching parish and land records of 1630's-1680 we found that this Daniel did not have a son by the name of Daniel and was there until late 1670s. We looked elsewhere. About 8 of us who claim to be descendents of this Daniel of the Witch Trials had DNA studies done which confirmed our connection. Also found that some identical DNA markers to be with two Irishmen whose families came over from Northern Ireland in late 1700's. Our DNA markers also are almost identical, minus one or two/25 markers, from old Scotch-Irish and Scottish groups of Elliots. We found a Dandl Ellot (mid 1500's) of the clan area in Scotland who was exiled from Scotland to the new Ulster Plantation area in 1608 and became known as Daniel Elliott. He was among 2000 Scottish men and their families that were new plantation members by 1620 as recorded on the Prynnar records. While in the colonies, this family was always found to be living among other Scotch-Irish families. So, after about 10 years of study, that is where we now are.
