They are listed together in the 1926 journal of Josiah V. Thompson, vol 17 (at usgenweb), but that may simply be how he recorded them. The cemetery is near E. South St and Hanover St. If they are buried together, Samuel may be a nephew of James. Samuel, husband of Caroline, was the son of Samuel Elliott and Mary Richardson, and grandson of immigrants John and Hannah Fish Elliott who arrived in Phila on May 27 1753 from Manton, Rutland, UK (see Jordan's Col Fam of Phila v 2 p 1636, on the internet). A review of the census to 1900 in Cumberland shows Samuel and Caroline's children as John, Samuel, Ann H (married Uhler?), Isaac (a painter in Carlisle), and maybe Charley (who could be a grandson, living with Caroline Elliott in '70). Samuel Jr. married Mary E (Webb?); he was a printer and later a confesctioner in Carlisle. There was also 10 year old George Wendell Elliott or Webb with SE Jr in 1870. Does anyone have an Elliott family that lived in Mt Vernon, Knox Co, OH in the time period 1840 - 1850? I have found several Elliotts in St Paul Episcopal Church there in that time. I'm looking for the parents of Matthew Elliott who was married in that church in 1843. The people I'm looking for are probably part of the extended family, as they carry many of the same names but later birth dates. I was lucky enough to find the book online in it's entirety and downloaded it as PDF. Thanks for the headsup. It'll come in handy for future reference, I'm sure. You can find some information here: http://www.archive.org/details/genealogyoflambr00lamb The family is listed beginning on book page 58. Jacob's section begins on page 55 (not PDF pages, actual book pages). You can download the whole book as a PDF file. Hope Matlack, daughter of Jacob MATLACK and Sebilla ELLIS. Hope was born 7 July 1796, married Peter WHITEMAN of Philadelphia. Jacob MATLACK and Sebilla ELLIS married 28 Dec 1782, Old Swedes Church, Philadelphia. (See Pennsylvania Archives, Vol. VIII, pp. 361 and 444.) I know Hope Matlack and Peter WHITEMAN had sons named Wendell, Jacob?, Peter, George. They were all shoemakers. Daughters were Susannah and Elmira on 1850 census. Wendell was with his own family at that time, and he's probably the oldest son. In the 1840 Census, Peter Whiteman has six daughters between 10-19 years of age. Only two are accounted for in 1850 with the family. In 1870, Jacob Whiteman is living with brother? Wendell's family. I believe Jacob is Wendell's brother. Hope died 14 Mar 1865. Husband Peter died 09 May 1879. Many family members were buried in the United American Mechanics Cemetery in Philadelphia, and were later removed to Philadelphia Memorial Park (cemetery), Frazer, Chester County, Pennsylvania when the old cemetery was razed in 1951 to make way for a public housing project which has also been demolished. George Washington Matlack (son of Jacob and Sebilla ELLIS had a daughter named Sebilla Ellis MATLACK (B. 1834) who married Charles SEVERS. Mary Elizabeth MATLACK (b. 1839), daughter of George Washington MATLACK (son of Jacob and Sebilla) and Mary Ann SPENCER had a daughter named Sibilla KEMBLE. Jacob and Sebilla had about ten children, not all of their children's families are listed. There's a good chance a few off the offspring's children named their daughters Sebilla. I can't find a Catherine connected to Hope, but that doesn't mean there wasn't one. There are several females unaccounted for. I'll keep looking. The family name is "John Henry Elliott." The generation before that one was from County Ayre, Scotland, and included lots of men named James, Robert, and John Elliott. Common women's names were Elizabeth, Jane, Mary, Ann. The John Henry Elliotts were Anglicans and settled in Glen Wild, Sullivan County, New York. The James Elliotts were Catholics and were cousins, coming to the U.S. at approximately the same time and settling in the same general region.
